Clarisonic MIA 2 Review

Wednesday, October 14, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ I didn't realize that today is a public holiday, so it's a day off! Yeay~ I haven't really been drafting blog posts as often as I should, but I'll manage. I have posted my thoughts on the Foreo Luna last week, so I thought it would be appropriate to acknowledge the other skincare device I have on hand. I present to you, Clarisonic MIA 2.

I got this last August along with the Foreo Luna, so I was a little slow in trying out both of them just to make sure that I give each of them a fair use. This is not a comparison post between the Luna and the Clarisonic, but I will try to get that post up by the end of the month, hopefully.

This skincare device comes in a box that has all of the product information printed all over it. Inside the box, there is the Clarisonic MIA 2, one sensitive brush head, a cleanser, a case for travelling, a charger, and instructions. It takes a while to charge; initial charge took 24 hours, to be used for 24 minutes, then after that it needs to be charged for 18 hours. In short, you need to charge your MIA for 18 hours after using it 24 times. Got it?

There are a few types of brush heads on the Clarisonic website, but this one comes with the sensitive brush head. It says on the box that the brush needs to be replaced every three months. I haven't used this for that long, but I think mine can be replaced at a later time. Currently, I'm only using this once every two nights, instead of every night like most people.

The bristles are soft, but I still find that it's a bit too harsh for my sensitive skin. Thankfully, I haven't had any issues of acne or broken veins while using it. The skin on my cheeks just turned red after using it. I'm not pressing it hard on my skin, FYI.

The Clarisonic works as a physical exfoliator to remove any dirt, debris or dead skin cells that are stuck on the outermost layer of our skin (epidermis). The bristles will oscillate or move left and right at an amazing speed that we can only see it vibrating.

My skin feels soft and smooth after using this device for a full minute on low speed. It has two speed settings, which can be adjusted using the up and down arrow button. I prefer using the low speed setting because the high speed cause my skin to look red afterwards.

Overall, this skincare device does its job of removing any dead skin cells and making my face feel smooth. However, I haven't yet seen the wonders that this device can do for my skin right now. I mean, it does the same job as my old face that is non-oscillating. I don't mind the idea of replacing the brush for the sake of hygiene.

Maybe I should try skipping double cleanse to see the action? I really don't have the guts to. What do you think? Have you tried this hyped device? Let me know in the comments what you think about it. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later.

P.S: Maybe this blog post will be updated once I used it for 6 months or see changes in my skin, whichever comes first. For now, I'll give you my brief overview. :)

A'pieu BB Cushion

A'Pieu Air-Fit Cushion Special Set Doraemon Edition Review and Swatch

Monday, October 12, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ Are you all ready for another Doraemon edition from A'pieu? I have reviewed the lip jelly from A'pieu last week, so it's time for the cushion review~

The cushion comes in an adorable blue box that has Doraemon printed on it. It has a list of ingredients and information on the product, but all of it is written in Korean, so I'll skip the part where I explain the ingredients in detail.

The Doraemon edition cushion comes with one Doraemon case filled with the cushion and the puff along with another refill and an extra puff. It was quite surprising because I thought it only comes with the case, cushion and puff.

The shade I chose is #23, the darker shade out of the collection. My skin always tend to match the darker ones if it is Korean makeup.  As with most Korean base makeup, it is a darker beige that has a yellow undertone.

It gives a satin finish on my combination skin. I like using just one layer of this BB cushion because two layers makes my face look cakey. It conceals redness on my cheeks and edges of my nose, but not sun spots.

The BB cushion has an average oil control on me, lasting around 3-4 hours before looking shiny on my T zone. However, if I were outdoors, it wouldn't last that long, probably around 30 minutes or so. Hey, I have active sweat and sebaceous glands :)

Overall, I enjoyed using this cushion as an everyday makeup base as it provides me enough coverage and still looks like skin. I don't mind that it doesn't cover up my sun spots because I don't need full coverage on a daily basis. Oil control is great when I pair it with a mattifying powder afterwards.

Have you tried this cushion from A'pieu before? Let me know in the comments what you think about it or why you're thinking of getting it (or not). Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

Foreo Luna Review

Friday, October 09, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ Over the past few years, there has been numerous skincare tools that helps improve the appearance and condition of the skin. There were a few claims to these devices aside from just cleansing the skin, thus removing the outermost part of the skin a.k.a the dead skin cells. Cleaning out blackheads from the pores all the way to anti-aging. Some claim, huh?

One of the devices that recently came on the market is the Foreo Luna. A skincare device equipped with two sides for face cleansing and anti-aging. It first came out around 2013, but I just got it last month in Sephora Singapore. I've been using it for a month and half, give or take, so here is what I think of the device.

The half egg shaped device comes in a box, complete with instructions manual and a charger. There is also a Foreo authenticity card, so it can be registered at their website. It gives a 2 year warranty/10 year quality guarantee that you can read here on their website.

If you look on their website, you can see various colours the Foreo has to offer. However, it turns out that the colours are indicators of the different type of Foreo. It has different bristles from one another and is targeted for specific skin types. The blue one is for combination skin, pink is for sensitive/normal skin, and the white is for ultra sensitive skin.

I am going to talk about the blue Luna because that is what I got. The blue Luna has two types of bristles; one slightly big than the other. It is made from silicone that has a dull edge, so it doesn't scratch the skin as regular brush-type bristle do.

It functions to cleanse the skin from any dead skin cell that is stuck on the outermost layer of the skin. Remember my blog post on how our skin has a slower turnover rate as we age? Well, one of the way to help enhance the removal of dead skin cell would be to use physical exfoliants, if you're afraid of chemical ones.

With this device, all I did was dampen it with a bit of water before use and apply soap all over my already wet face. I proceed to turn it on by pressing the button in the middle of the (-) and (+) sign, switched it to its highest speed and use an upward motion on my cheeks, forehead, chin and nose. As for the under eye area, I use the lowest speed to cleanse it thoroughly. To adjust the speed, I just pressed the (-) and (+) sign.

It has a buzzing sound while it is turned on and double buzz to indicate the 15 second mark. It certainly feels relaxing as it massages my skin. On days when I feel lousy, I would turn it to the lowest setting and massage my face using the back side of the device.

Luna charges fast and last for quite a long time. I just need to charge it for an hour to make it last for over 20 something use, not sure about the exact number, but it is a long time. Well, maybe not a life time, but a long time. :)

However, I am a little concerned about the location of the charger on the Luna. It was on the backside and I'm just afraid to get water inside it. So far, I have been extra careful before I charge it because I'm terrified that it will short circuit when I plug the charger in. Yeah, I'm paranoid that water will get inside the hole.

The question of the century is, " Is it worth the money?". Well, as a cleansing device, it does the same job as my non-vibrating silicone brush. Maybe if you're someone who doesn't double cleanse with a cleansing oil, this would do wonders for you. I know people have been singing praises to the Luna, but I'm not in that group. Not that I hate the Luna entirely, I like using the massage tool on the back of it. It's just that the Luna is not all that to me.

How about you? Have you tried the Foreo Luna? Let me know in the comments below your thoughts are about it or if you're dying to try it. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

P.S: Maybe this blog post will get tons of hate, but hey, to each their own, right? :)

Bioderma Teaching Skin to Rehydrate Itself?!

Wednesday, October 07, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ I have been a fan of Bioderma's micelle water since I tried cleansing my face with it back in 2012. It has been one of my holy grail skincare items due to its ingredients that is free from fragrance that tend to irritate my face.

However, I'm not here to talk about the Sensibio line from Bioderma. Nope. There's a new kid on the block, Bioderma block, and its name is Hydrabio. It claims to hydrate the driest skin by stimulating the synthesis of aquaporins and inter-corneocyte lipids, so that the skin's Natural Moisturizing Factor (NMF) is able to do its job in moisturizing the skin. Pretty cool, huh?

They have a wide range of skincare products, ranging from cleanser, toner, serum and a water spray. This looks nifty for giving instant moisture to the skin any time, anywhere. I can't wait to try the spray!

In the mean time, while we wait for the Hydrabio range to hit the shelves, here are a few tips on taking care of you dry skin.

# Always remember to moisturize your skin immediately after your shower
# Stay away from skincare products that contain alcohol, ethanol, or isopropyl alcohol

I'll let you know the prices as soon as I have the information. I'll probably tweet or instagram it, so be sure to follow me there. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

A'pieu Lip Jelly Doraemon Review

A'pieu Lip Jelly Doraemon Review and Swatch

Monday, October 05, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ Happy Monday! How was yours? I hope it was alright, mine was. A week ago, I bought a lip tint (or jelly as this brand would call it) from a blogger friend, Oline. She was kind enough to help me get these cutesies, thank you~ ^_^

The lip jellies were from a  Korean brand called A'pieu. I tried google what it means, but it was all written in Korean on their website, obviously. Not sure if this is right, but the word means basic in French? Don't quote me on that. ^_^
I have never tried any products from A'pieu before, so I'm pretty excited. The lip jelly is sealed in plastic complete with a sticker that gets ripped when the cap it turned. On the tube, there is Doraemon with different expressions.

I can't find any ingredients written in English, so maybe I'll skip analyzing the ingredients in this post. It has a doe foot brush applicator, similar to most lip gloss in the market.
Left: Watermelon; Right: Cherry

There are six shades in the Dorameon collection from A'pieu, ranging from berry reds all the way to oranges. I picked two shades, the watermelon and cherry shade, like I always do when purchasing lip tints or stains. In my eyes, they look almost similar to each other, only the Watermelon shade has a more pinkish tone. Plus, my camera won't show the right colors, boo.

The consistency is slightly thicker than water, almost like a liquefied jelly. I find it quite a challenge to blend the colors evenly with my fingers. I would suggest tapping your fingers gently on your lips to blend out the colors and use a small amount at the beginning. Also, I wouldn't swipe the applicator all over the lips as it makes the color bleed.

It does feel drying like a lip tint, so I always apply a coat of lip balm on top after it dries. Maybe around a minute or two. It doesn't taste bitter when I accidentally lick my lips. I know some lip tints are notorious for tasting awfully.

It does last longer than a typical lipstick, but it is quite hard to remove, even with cleansing oil. Yup, I swatched it on my hand and it is still here as I am typing this blog post. Kinda scared of using it on the lips, to be honest, lol.

Overall, I bought this purely for the sake of having Doraemon's head on some of my makeup products, lol. I didn't even have high expectations that it would perform as decent as this. The only thing that makes me scared to use it is its longevity. I mean, cleansing oil won't remove it? Come on.

Have you tried any products from A'pieu? I still have a cushion from them to review, so be sure to stay tune for that blog post. It should be coming up this week, fingers crossed. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

eSenses Color Me Lip Wild Plum Review and Swatch

Saturday, October 03, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ It has been year of lipsticks in the beauty industry. At least, that's how I feel every time I'm on Instagram. There seemed to be a new lipstick launch every month or so. The ones that is everywhere nowadays is liquid lipsticks. Well, my review isn't liquid lipsticks, but a regular one from a drugstore here in Jakarta.

I have never heard of this brand before, so when I saw it on the shelves in the store I bought it. Unfortunately, I only bought one shade, so I can't test out the vivid colors of the bright ones. Maybe I'll get them next time I pass by the store.

The lipstick is from a brand called eSenses. This particular lipstick comes from the Color Me Lip collection, not sure if that is the only collection they have, but it seems like it for now. The lipstick came is a separate box that has a silver and pink color combination.

On the back of the box, the ingredients are listed with the first one being castor oil that is supposed moisturizing for the lips. Dimethicone is present to possibly create a smooth finish and texture to the lips once applied. Beeswax will hold the shape of the lipstick and has moisturizing properties as well. It uses candelila wax and lanolin oil for further moisture. It uses propylparaben and BHT as preservatives.

I'm not sure how many shades this lipstick collection has as is the beauty assistant where I shop, lol. However, there are quite a range of colors for a drugstore lipstick. I bought shade number 15 Wild Plum, a mauve toned color with a hint of pinkish-red.

On my lips, it is quite true to its color when I swatched it on the back of my hand. It feels moisturizing, almost like a tinted lip balm. It has a slight shine on my lips once I finished applying it. As with most moisturizing lipsticks, it does fade after a meal, so I have to reapply them afterwards. Totally not a problem.

Overall, I didn't expect to like this lipstick considering it looks doubtful, lol. I mean, I honestly thought the colors won't even show, but it does. Beautifully, even. For a drugstore lipstick that costs less than Rp 30,000, this is a hit for me.

Have you tried this lipstick from eSenses before? Let me know what your thoughts are if you have or planning to try. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later
