Skin Aqua Perfect Matte BB Cream Review

Monday, March 30, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ I have been off from blogging for a good one week, I think. Mr. G and I were down with acute pharyngitis, so it has been a week of resting and medicine. Nonetheless, I'm feeling fit right now, so let me start off with reviewing a BB cream from skin Aqua.

I was sent this BB cream for review purposes a couple of weeks ago. If you have been a long time reader of my blog, you know how much I love Skin Aqua sunscreens. You can read the review here, here, and here. That is why I am excited when I heard they are releasing a BB cream.

I have yet to see the product on supermarket shelves as I haven't been out and about lately, so I can't really tell if this is a sample size or full size. However, the one sent to me is packaged in a separate bright pink metallic box with all the ingredients information on it. Inside the box is a white squeeze tube with a flip top cap on the end.

The BB cream contains a combination of physical and chemical sunscreen listed as Titanium Dioxide and Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate. As it is formulated for oily skin types, it is loaded with silicone and its derivatives to keep the skin matte. For preservatives, it uses a combination of parabens, urea, BHT, etc. Surprisingly, it contains paraffinum liquidum (mineral oil) at the end of the list. Thankfully, I didn't break out from it. *phew*

The consistency of the BB cream is on the thicker side, but it is easily blends into the skin. The downside is the famous one-shade-fit-all, which is common with most Asian BB creams. They provide two colors at the most. Fortunately, this BB cream has a yellow undertone and none of that grey-ashy undertone that everyone despises a lot.

The BB cream has a matte finish with a light to medium coverage. At the moment, the shade looks a touch too light for my skintone. However, I still like using it to conceal any redness on my face by applying it from the center, so it feathers nicely outwards. The oil control on my face is not that bad, ranging at 3 to 4 hours before giving my face a shiny finish.

Overall, I enjoyed using this mattifying and lightweight BB cream from Skin Aqua. It doesn't break me out, despite the mineral oil in it. As I am writing this, I'm not sure how much this BB Cream cost, but I will update it as soon as I find out.

I am glad that I finally found a BB cream that is available locally in the drugstore that doesn't have a grey undertone. Have you tried this BB cream? Let me know in the comments below and until then, I'll see you later~

Evete Naturals Lip Balm and Body Butter Review

Wednesday, March 18, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ As much as I love foundations and lipsticks, my love for skincare is pretty much unbeatable. I believe that healthy skin is the perfect canvas for makeup to adhere to. Lip balms is one of the many skincare products that is near and dear to my heart. Probably because it is one of my first skincare items back in junior high.

A few weeks ago, EVT naturals sent me some of their items to try out. I was excited to see that it was lip balms with various scents (and flavors!).

A photo posted by Stephanie Nangoi (@snangoi) on

EVT Body Butter
The product is packaged inside a white plastic jar that has a twist off lid on top. Around the jar is a sticker that is complete with product information and ingredients list. To indicate the brand new product, it is sealed with clear plastic all over the jar.

The body butter uses a combination of butters and oil that is beneficial for those with dry to very dry skin. Shea butter and cocoa butter has been known to aid those having dry, flaky skin. For the scent, EVT uses fragrance oil.

The consistency of the body butter is similar to cake icing that has been whipped. Since there is an absence of water in the ingredients, the body butter turns into oil once blended on the skin.

It is greasy and took a while to sink into the skin. I feel that it is better to pair this body butter with a body lotion because it is not moisturizing on its own  and tends to sit on the skin.

EVT Lip Balm
Moving on to the last product from EVT Naturals is the flavored lip balms. I got four flavors to try out, namely Vanilla, Green Tea, Chocolate Mint, and Strawberry. They are packaged in a rectangular white box with slim bow on top. Cute!

With ingredients that are almost similar to that of the body butter, this lip balm uses a blend of shea butter, virgin coconut oil and beeswax. These ingredients help moisturize your lips and protects them from losing any moisture.

Wrapped with the ever-so-adorable illustration sticker, the lip balm comes in a twist off plastic packaging like most lip balms. They are so moisturizing for my lips, I am thinking of purchasing other flavors. It's not like those petrolatum-based lip balm, where it just sits on my lips and not get absorbed.

Overall, I really enjoy the products from EVT Naturals, probably because they use shea butter and cocoa butter for moisture. I love those two products combined together, especially if put in a lip balm form.

Just so you can try them out with me, I am holding a giveaway with EVT Naturals on my Instagram account. Just head on over to @snangoi to get more info on how you can win these two items from EVT. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

My Planner Supplies

Monday, March 16, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ I have fallen in love with pen and paper again. Not that I'm ever out of love with them. I find that I have been more productive if the plans are written on paper, rather than being in an app. Somehow, I would disregard them, lol.

In this blog post, I want to share the things I use for my planners and some of my supplies that I haven't really gotten around to using. My current planner is one from Rados, a local brand that is usually found in Gramedia. This is my third ring-bound planner in my ever-growing collection. It's a beautiful shade of blue.

Pens
Wouldn't be able to write without it, right? I used to color code, but it got overwhelming since I keep on misplacing the colorful pens, so I switched to just one color. I am currently in love with gel pens like the ones below which I got from Tokopedia. They're only Rp 7,000 ($ 0.50) a piece! >.<
The second pen from the right is Rp 7000.

Sticky Notes
This is one of my favorite ways to remind myself to buy groceries. I would write the grocery list here and stick it on my weekly schedule. My favorite brand is Post-Its and other cute ones that I got mainly from Scoop.

Washi Tapes
One of the new discoveries I made as I advance in the world of planning. These are basically just decorative tapes that help to make a page look more interesting. I use it to make borders, but the options are just endless! My favorite washi tape is one from MT, bought from Gudily at Plaza Indonesia (or online).

Adorable Stickers
I think I am turning into a sticker addict. I know it has no productivity function, but it looks cute and adorable inside my planner. The pages gave me a fun atmosphere to look at and motivates me to keep to my schedule. I bought it at Gramedia, Toys Kingdom, ebay, and random stationery stores.

Magnetic Bookmarks
As much as I love ordinary bookmarks, I don't like it if my paper is crumpled and torn. I prefer magnetic bookmarks because of that reason. I bought the butterflies at Office 1 Superstore and the fox over at Scoop.

Dot Stickers
Even though I said previously I ditched the color coding system, I didn't really leave it entirely. I still use color dot stickers to indicate some weekly activity. I got the dot stickers from Gramedia for just Rp 8,500. I think it will last me a long time.

These are my staples, aside from the usual scissors, double tape, and glue, of course. What is your planner staple? Share down below in the comments. I would love to get more ideas on how to maximize planner potential, lol. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~

Benefit Indonesia Roller Lash Mascara Launch

Saturday, March 14, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ If the picture below looks familiar, I think you already know by now the name of the mystery mascara. For those who don't, the mystery mascara is Benefit's newest mascara called Roller Lash.

A photo posted by Stephanie Nangoi (@snangoi) on

I was invited to the launch of the new Roller Lash mascara yesterday. It was so exciting since I haven't gone to a beauty event for some time. Right before the entrance of the room, there was a cotton candy stall that is all pink. *squeals*

Inside, the venue was decorated beautifully with pink and silver all over. There were small sections for the mini games (which were super fun!) and a makeover section for those who want to try the newest mascara from Benefit.

Before playing the mini games, we were welcomed to snacks and drinks. I helped myself to a hot cup of tea. The games were fun, but I didn't win the one where we have to throw an eyelash curler to a basket. I won myself a primer deluxe sample from fishing one of the duckies, though!

After the laughs from winning (some ) mini games, the event started with a dance perfomance. It has a retro, grease-lightning feel to it.

Moving on the the main event, Ms. Daisy Utami, the brand GM of Benefit Cosmetics Indonesia explained the history of how Roller Lash is developed for four years. Yes, she is wearing hair rollers, you're not imagining stuff.

In fact, Ms. Daisy said that the idea of Roller Lash is inspired by ordinary hair rollers that helps to curl and volumize the hairs. "Think of it like a usual hair roller, but for your lashes!", she said cheerfully with rollers on her hair.

The selected beauty bloggers shared their experience using the Roller Lash and most them enjoyed the mascara without having to curl their lashes. It does have a unique mascara brush that is called Hook 'n' Roll Brush, which captures the shortest lashes and curling them upwards beautifully. Oh, and it holds the curl for 12 hours!

Ms. Julyanti, sales and development manager, added that it contains provitamin B5 and Serine that conditions the lashes. In her presentation, she noted that in a survery of 31 women, 97% said it visibly lifts their lashes, 87% said that it gives long-lasting curls, while 94% said their eyes look wide open. All without any help from an eyelash curler. Neat, huh?

After the short presentation from Ms. Julyanti, it's to lighten up and play some games! As the theme is all about curling and hairs, the game is attaching hair rollers to a wig. The winner is the one with the most hair rollers on the pink hair.

With the end of the game, it's time for dinner. The guests are welcome to try the new mascara and take pictures in the photo section. Since it was getting late, I bid adieu to my friends and thanked the host for such a warming and fun launch event. Thanks again for the fun evening, Benefit Indonesia! :)

Did you know that the packaging of the Roller Lash is unique in its own way? The pink cap is inspired by the retro pink hair rollers, whereas the silver stars on the box is inspired from the interior decoration motive of old hair salloons in America back in 1950s.

Beauty Story Mineral DD Loose Powder Review

Wednesday, March 11, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ Remember the (almost) huge Beauty Story haul I had a few months ago that I posted on my Instagram account? One of my purchases was a loose powder. Yes, another powder/base product. I have an addiction towards base makeup. *sighs*
A photo posted by Stephanie Nangoi (@snangoi) on

The loose powder is packaged in a white box that is filled with simple, but cute pastel flower designs. It also has information and ingredients of the loose powder printed on the sides of the box. For a local brand, it sure keeps up with the current beauty trend that is cute and girly packaging.

Yes, you read right, it is a local brand. Not Korean, not Japanese, but Indonesian. The cuteness doesn't stop there. No, ma'am. Once out of the box, the loose powder is placed inside a round half transparent plastic container with a light pink twist off lid.

Based on the ingredients list, this product is catered to those with oily skin or have problems with excess oil on their face. Reason being is the presence of mica, talc, corn starch, and kaolin, which are agents that help with those oily problems. Slightly worried about the mica (or mineral makeup in general) being a hazard to my lungs, though. (Mica source, source, and source)

I bought the darker shade out of the two (as usual) because I don't like it if my face looks too white, when my arms are 'dark'. It gives light coverage, but not so much as reducing appearance of fine lines and pores as they claim to do. I apply it using a kabuki brush and applied it like I would a mineral makeup base.

Aside from the matte finish, it's mediocre for me.
Overall, a light base makeup for everyday that evens out your skin tone and gives a matte finish. Even though they did mention to protect from the sun on their website, I couldn't find any information on the exact number of SPF or PA on the product itself.

Beyond Lovely Up Cotton BB Cream Review

Monday, March 09, 2015

Hello, lovelies~ I hope you're not bored with BB creams yet because I have yet another one to review. This time it is one from Beyond, a Korean beauty company that is under LG corporation, if I'm not mistaken. :)

The BB cream is packaged in a light pink squeeze tube with a twist off cap at the end. The tube is decorated with these cute doodles of clouds, lollipops and other adorable things. It doesn't have a separate box, so make sure it is sealed with plastic when you buy a new one.

Since the ingredients list are all in Korean, I can't explain them to you in a more detailed way. The consistency of the BB cream is slightly on the thicker side. On my (currently) combination skin, I feel that it's a bit hard to blend. Even after managing to blend it on my face, it clings to the dry areas on my skin, exaggerating those dry patches.

I bought the darker shade out of the two available. However, I still feel that it is too light for my skintone. What do you think?

As for coverage, it managed to conceal the redness on my face, giving an appearance of an even skin tone. It has a matte finish that may be of interest to those with oily skin.

Despite the thick consistency, it doesn't cover acne spots too well. You can still see some of the acne spots, even if there is no more redness. The oil control is average on me, around 2-3 hours, depending on your level of activity and surrounding environment.

Overall, it is an okay BB cream, with a light coverage and an average oil control. Have you tried it? Let me know in the comments below what you think about it. Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you later~
