7 Songs That Takes Me Back to My School Days

Tuesday, October 14, 2014

Hello, lovelies~ I now know why old people insist on listening to their old music, no matter how outdated that may sound. It's not just the tune of the song that they love, it's the memories behind the song itself that adds more value to it.

Having that said, yes, we are getting older and yes, I am in a state of missing my salad days. *holds self to not cry while writing this post*

Growing up, music is one of the many escapes in my life from daily routine and struggles. Well, assignments were one of those struggles back in those school days, I guess. I remember going home from school and picking out what song I want to listen to from my many cassettes. After that, I just sat on the edge of my bed, doing my homework with the song in the background.

*sniff*

Getting emotional here.

Okay. I have compiled seven songs that immediately takes me back to my school days, beginning from junior high all the way to high school.

Five - Until The Time is Through

I am a fan of this boyband, especially Scott. I remember collecting all his pin-ups from Kawanku magazine and taping it all over the walls in my room. I was in 8th grade when I heard this song and it was all I could talk about on the phone with my friends.

Goo Goo Dolls - Iris

I didn't watch City of Angels, but I sure love the soundtrack. You can feel the pain behind those lyrics and I always remembered how I used to be such a fan of Rzeznik. Now that I think about it, he was is a hottie.

M2M - The Day You Went Away
credits
This song will never be forgotten in my book. It was back in 2000, my band (Purity) performed it on stage in front of the crowd. The spotlight were on us and we played it to the end. We felt like stars, like the world is ours. That moment is truly unforgettable. :')

Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You
credits
I'm not the biggest fan of Savage Garden, but I am so in love with this song. So. Much. In. Love. It reminds me of my O level days when we would just sing in class and not cared about grades for that brief moment in time.

Boyzone - All That I Need
Good God, I screamed at this back then. Credits
This is one of my favorite boybands growing up, thus the tears and sadness when I hear Stephen Gately died a few years ago. This song in particular stuck with me because it is the first song where I learned to play a standing chord on my guitar by myself. I was so proud that I could do a standing chord on the guitar back when I was 13. ^o^

Blink 182 - Going Away To College
I love you, Mark. <3
credits
It was the days of mIRC and everyone is talking about blink 182. This, however, is my favorite song because it feels romantic whenever I listen to it. I bought their CD and played it on my discman when I had that short trip to Singapore in 2000.

KoRn - Freak On A Leash
I miss the old you, JD.
credits
One of my favorite songs back then when I'm feeling sad. Being a Jonathan Davis fangirl, I wore my favorite KoRn tee to uni, where Mr. G noticed me for the first time. This song is purely talking about life and for me it helped me through the worst of times. Indeed, you'll never see me fall from grace.

If you want to listen to these songs and reminisce your own salad days, I have put them in a playlist on my Grooveshark account. Enjoy the music and until then, I'll see you later~

  2. Stephen Gately was my favourite Boyzone member. :(
These songs definitely remind me of late elementary school. I loved Goo Goo Dolls all through high school and college, and I still think John Rzeznik is a stud haha.
