5 Tips to Keep Skin Clear

Monday, September 29, 2014

Hello, lovelies~ Today, I'm sharing 5 tips that can help keep skin clear from acne given that I have oily, acne-prone skin. I have already talked about my fight against acne in my old post, but it's always nice to wrap things up in one post, don't you think?

Besides, I have some new tips that wasn't in that old blog post, but if you want to learn more on how to treat your acne you can always go back to that post by clicking on the link.

Double Cleansing

This is, by far, my favorite method of cleansing my oily, acne-prone skin. As the name implied, it is a two-step cleansing (hence, double cleansing) using a makeup remover and a regular face wash. Or at least, that is how I use that method. This will thoroughly remove traces of makeup and gets rid of clogged pores that can lead to acne.

The first step uses any type of makeup remover, be it a micelle solution or an oil-based formula. My favorite oil-based formula (or better known as cleansing oil) is shu uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil because it just leaves my skin clean without any greasy feeling. The second step is simply cleansing with a regular face cleanser and mine happens to be be St. Ives Green Tea Gel Cleanser at the moment.

Put Up A Fight

When those pesky, little acne comes up to the surface of your skin, it is time to bring out the big guns. In my book, those are acne-fighting creams such as those that contains Benzoyl Peroxide, Salicylic Acid, or Retinoic acid (to name a few).

My favorite is benzoyl peroxide because it works faster than the others on my skin. You can try out BP in a number of concentrations, but always start from the lowest, which is 2.5%. For maintenance, I use a cream containing retinoic acid at night time to keep those pesky acne away from my face.

Mask On

One of the main cause of your acne may lie in your pores. Yes, those little holes on your face aren't for breathing, that's for sure. However, it serves as a 'channel' to expell all the dead cells on your skin, so that it is thrown out daily. If those gets clogged, the dead skin cells on your skin piles up, got stuck and ended in the appearance of acne on your face.

This is where clay masks comes in handy. These types of face masks helps to remove dirt, oil, and dead skin cells by acting like a 'glue' on your skin. Once it dries, this 'glue' have already had everything stuck in place. When you rinse it, those dead skin cells got removed along with the clay mask. A simple kaolin clay mask used three times a week is sufficient if you have oily, acne-prone skin.

Bottoms up!

Aside from applying acne-fighting lotions and creams straight on the acne, you can also help your body fight acne from the inside. Some of the supplements to fight acne is probiotics and zinc, which I have already talked about in my previous post.

5 Tips to keep skin clear

Probiotics helps to fix the gut lining, so that toxins can't escape into the blood stream and affecting our skin. Zinc, on the other hand, acts as an anti inflammatory and speeds up your process of keratinization, so there will be lesser to no acne.

Don't Pop Them!

I know you have heard this beauty tip over and over, but it's true! You should never pop a pimple because the bacteria inside it can spread to other areas on your skin, resulting in a new pimple with a different area than the old one.

5 Tips to keep skin clear

However, should you have already (accidentally) pop your pimple(s), try your best to not touch it. Just leave it alone. I usually cover it with a clean gauze or an acne patch like the one from Nexcare. It may not work to get the pimple out, but it works in accidents like this. Plus, it absorbs the pus! :)

I hope these beauty tips can help you in keeping your skin clear and free from acne. Just remember that this doesn't happen overnight. It takes time, patience, and consistency when it comes to skincare. Also, your skin regenerates in 28 days, so that is usually the time needed to see results.

  1. These are great tips!
I follow a strict double cleansing routine like the ones you've outlined. I then use a base toner, serum, and cream to keep my skin in check. :)
But aside from that, I try to avoid sugary snacks because I find I get breakouts around my chin area if I eat too much sugar.
I used to take Evening Primrose Oil supplements (in capsule form) and it actually works well to make my skin look healthier.

    1. Hi, Terri~ Thanks for reading. Sugary snacks are related to our skin's health as it produces AGE (Advanced Glycation End products) that will age our skin faster than the normal rate. So, you made a good decision to avoid sugary snacks, good for you!

I'm gonna look into Evening Primrose Oil for my skin, thanks for the suggestion! ^_^
