5 Makeup Tips For Your Wedding Day

Hello, lovelies~ It seems like it was only yesterday that I prepared for the wedding, one of the biggest days in my (and Mr. G's) life. I remembered the hustle and bustle of the prep, months before the big day. Picking out the wedding invitation card, going to wedding dress fittings, and fussing over the details of the decoration for the wedding venue. Although it sounded tiring, I didn't regret any moment of it.

For those brides-to-be who are reading this right now and perplexing on what step should you prepare next, allow me to be of an assistance to you. Note that I am not a professional wedding planner or wedding organizer, but I was a bride not so long ago. I can kinda understand your sudden urge to yell at someone, lol.

Having that said, I am here to share some things I learned during the wedding preparation process, makeup-wise, of course. Let's put aside all those other things (invitation, decoration, etc) and talk about things to remember when putting on makeup on your wedding day.
---

1. Be Yourself!

Choose a style of makeup that will enhance your features, instead of changing you into someone else. You can focus on your eyes, lips, or even your slim jawline if you're blessed with one. Wouldn't want the groom to look all confused when he sees you, right?

Can you see me through my veil, G?

2. Cameras + Matte Face = Happy Bride

I can still remember telling Endi over and over again to dust powder on my T zone because of the very oily nature of it. With the cameras flashing by as the event goes on, a matte face can save me from looking 'sweaty' or 'greasy' in photos.

I used a hint (very, very small amount) of powder highlighter, just to avoid looking 'flat' with no dimension on my face. Powder highlighters can help to prevent looking 'sweaty' or 'greasy', but still gives that radiant glow to the bride.

3. Bright colored lips will save the day!

Did you know that those heavy flashes from the camera can mute the color up to two shades lighter? Yikes! Imagine using a nude brown lips for the night time reception, aiming to achieve a natural look, only to have the photos develop and you look like the living dead. No, no, we don't want that.

Although it may look really heavy in real life, trust me, the cameras will tone it down for you. What may looks like a blood red, will look like pinkish-red on pictures. So, nudes and light colored lips may wash you out, be aware of that. Unless the venue is in the afternoon and the photos are shot using natural day light, then you can probably get away with use lighter lip shades.

4. Don't forget the neck!

If you're wearing a strapless dress, powder your neck and cleavage as well. I would suggest powdering all the way to the back lightly, as well. It would look weird if there is an obvious line between the front and back, right? Be sure to cover your wedding dress to avoid any powder or foundation spilling on your beautiful dress.

5. Look for inspirations online

At lost for what type of makeup look you want for the big day? Open your laptop (or anything gadget-y) and find makeup inspirations online. Google is your best friend in this journey of searching for the one makeup look.

Bridestory is one of the many websites that offer such inspirations to fit your dream wedding. They have numerous wedding vendors to choose from, hence making it easier to plan everything, starting from invitations all the way to catering, for your big day.

You can customize your vendor-searching based on your location, budget, and type of vendor. All in a simple drop down menu on top of the website. That way, it's always catered to your needs.

The layout of the website is simple, making it easy for brides-to-be to view it on their tablet or mobile. It is also 'pinnable' on Pinterest, so you won't lose the inspirations you've found after hours spent searching for that perfect makeup look.

I wished that I had found this website when I was busy preparing for my own wedding back in April. It would've been so much easier contacting the vendors since they're all listed in the website.

So, brides-to-be, don't forget to check out Bridestory for your own personal wedding assistant. Well, digitally, that is.

Do you have any makeup tips that will help for those brides-to-be?

Don't be shy and leave a comment below on what your tips are. Sharing is caring, right? Thanks for reading and until then, I'll see you soon~

  4. Ci, gara-gara dateng ke kawinan cici aku jadi tambah semangat gitu mikirin buat nikahan nanti gimana (walaupun kapannya masih dibatas angan-angan. haha). Yours look so humble and supper happy at the same time. For a while, I haven't been in a wedding with pure happiness seen on the guests eyes. But yours seem so sincere and all the people have the same intention, which is to be happy for you. I want to have a wedding like yours so bad!! X)
