Review Tony Moly Backstage Gel Eyeliner

“Disclosure: I bought this product with my own money. I am neither affiliated with this company nor am I being paid to write this post. My opinions honest and my own.” Complete disclosure here

Hello, lovelies~ This product that I am about to review is the second eyeliner I tried back then when I was still a newbie in beauty blogging (2011). It was on sale and I thought it'd be a great idea to try out a gel eyeliner. I've forgotten about it until Tony Moly went on a promotion, so I bought it again. The only difference is I bought the purple shade back in 2011, instead of the black I bought a couple of months ago.

The packaging is unique, but space-consuming at the same time. I guess the pointy end makes it a little less travel friendly. However, Tony Moly inserted a small brush at the pointy end, so there is no need to a bring another brush if you're on the go.

Like most gel eyeliners, it comes in a twist off jar, so it does have the tendency to dry out a lot faster if it is placed in a dry environment. I usually place mine in a cool place and sometimes, even in the fridge.

There are a few shades available from this line of gel eyeliners. Those that are work-friendly all the way to bold bright colors. As I have mentioned in the first paragraph, I have tried the purple shade back in 2011. Right now, I'm using the black shade which goes on very easily on my lids and has a jet black color.

The consistency of this gel eyeliner is super duper creamy, which makes it really easy if I want to smudge it for a smoky eye. I rarely do that, though. It glides on my eyelids easily like butter and leaves a jet black line behind, without any glossiness whatsoever. I do have to wait for around 30 seconds for it to dry or set it with a black eyeshadow so that it won't move around so much.
It won't smudge like that unless you blink your eyes hard, lol.
The staying power is average for me, probably because my eyelids are quite oily to begin with. The winged part is still visible, but the ones on the lids faded a bit. It also smudges on the outer part of my under eye area like the picture below.

I have already set it with a black eyeshadow, yet it still smudges T^T
Overall, I do favor the ease of use from this gel eyeliner since it is creamy to work with. The brush is a bit of a 'fail' for me since it can't really be controlled that easily. The shade is pigmented, but it does smudge underneath my eye as seen in the photo above, making me look like a panda.

Have you tried Tony Moly Gel Eyeliner or do you have another HG eyeliner? Let me know in the comments below and until then, I'll see you later~
