Maybelline New York Dream Matte Powder ReviewMonday, September 02, 2013
Hello, lovelies~ As you may have already known because I can be like a broken record most of the times, I have a oily skin. Not just on the T-zone, but all over my face. I need to set my base makeup to keep my face shine free. This is a very long overdue review, but here it is.
I have been using this powder for quite sometime, I think it was since late 2011? This is my third powder already, so you can tell how much I like it. The packaging may look similar to other compact powders, but it is quite bulky. Instead of having the mirror on top of the powder, it slides from the bottom of the compact along with the puff (which I lost already ^^;). It can be detached from the top, but I don't really mind.
With talc being one of the first ingredient in this compact, it serves its purpose in controlling any excess oil on the skin. Dimethicone gives a 'slippery' feel to the skin, making it silky smooth, which I like. For preservatives, this compact uses Phenoxyethanol and Parabens.
Even though it has the same appearance as any other compacts, it certainly feels lightweight on my face. It is one of the products that is foolproof for me because I can apply it with a heavy hand and still get away with not looking cakey. I usually apply this with a either a flat top powder brush or a big kabuki brush.
On my face, it has a sheer to light coverage, concealing only the mildest acne scars that I have. For other acne scars that are very red, it doesn't cover at all. However, it does minimize the appearance of redness on my face.
One of the things I love about this powder is the mattifying finish that it gives. As you can see in the picture below, the finish is not completely a harsh matte where my face looks flat, but a more soft matte. I only adjusted the contrast and added watermark, so the soft look is all the powder's doing. It also evens out my skin tone, reducing the redness that is visible on my cheeks and nose.
The oil control is quite remarkable on my oily face, lasting for a good 4 hours before my face looks slightly shiny. That four hours is only the powder used alone! If combined with my Oil Control foundation from Revlon, it can last for 6 hours before my face starts to look shiny.
Overall, this is my HG compact powder that I hope Maybelline Indonesia will start stocking in their counters. I love the lightweight feel and non-cakey look everytime I apply this powder. Not to mention the impressive oil control! Here are the summary for the review.
What is your HG powder? Share it with me down below in the comments, so that I can have an idea on what to try. Until then, I'll see you later~
