DOAPJ Makeup Tips: Foundation Tips

Tuesday, June 18, 2013

Hello, lovelies~ Foundation is the one thing that I am obsessed about when it comes to makeup. Even though I already have more than 3, it feels like I need more. Plus, my curiosity usually got the best of me, so I buy more foundation. So, I thought it’d be a good idea to share a few tips on how I apply foundation and keeping it there for a certain amount of time.

1. Primer is important:For someone who has very oily skin with huge pores on my nose and cheeks, a makeup primer is a must for me. This helps to smooth out appearance of huge pores and creates a smooth canvas for the foundation to adhere to. A primer helps to make my foundation last a little while longer before my natural oil seeps through my pores. I use silicone based primer if the foundation is also silicone based and a water based primer if the foundation is water based. This will help to enhance the longevity of the foundation.

2. Powder to the rescue! If you tend to be more outdoor or somewhere where it’s more humid and hot, opt for powder foundation. Two way cake or mineral foundation are the one I usually use when I don’t want it to melt during those hot days.

3. Always start small: Whenever I apply foundation, I always start with a small amount of product. I usually squeeze about a pea sized amount on the back of my hand, spread it a little bit and dot it evenly all over my face. After that, I just blend it all onto my face. Most of the times the foundation tends to look cakey if you pile on a large amount from the start. Just use it sparingly to even out you skintone. If you have problematic areas, it’s the concealer’s job, not foundation, ‘kay?

4. Brush or sponge or fingers?
It depends on the foundation, I’d say. If it is a silicone based foundation, I tend to use a brush, preferably a flat top brush. However, if it is a water based foundation, I usually use a damp sponge to apply it. I got this tip from Wayne Goss, he has great videos for beginners, check him out here!

5. Don’t forget to set it!
Right after applying the foundation, I usually set it with powder and/or makeup fixer sprays. This will enhance the longevity of your foundation and prolongs the matte look on my face. I use a regular loose powder because it has a greater oil control compared to compact powder. If I want it to stay on longer, I use a makeup fixer that works like hairspray, only for your face.

I hope you find these tips helpful in applying your foundation. Hopefully, I can make more posts like this, even though I can only share what works for my skin. Keep in mind that I am not a professional makeup artist and all these tips are based on my experience, so it may or may not work for you. What is your tip or trick when applying foundation? Let me know in the comments below and until then, I’ll see you later~ ^_^

    1. Kalo water based, di ingredientsnya ga ada yang endingnya 'cone'. Kaya dimethicone, silicone, cyclopentasiloxane. Kalo mereka ada di top 5 dalam ingredients list, biasanya sih silicone based.
