shu uemura Fresh Pore Clarifying Gentle Cleansing Oil Review

Hello, lovelies~ As promised, today, I want to share my experience using the shu uemura Fresh cleansing oil. I have been using this product for around 2 weeks every night before bed time.

I actually wanted to include this in my March favorites. However, since I can't reveal the item back then, I will include it in my April favorites next month. So, are you ready for the review? Here you go~!

Oh! Don't forget to join my giveaway and you can get a chance to win a bottle of shu uemura Fresh Cleansing Oil to try! J

Pump bottles are always handy

The cleansing oil comes in two sizes, 450 ml and 150 ml. This one has a light pink color theme to it which is just sweet and girly. The box has a similar pink and white color theme with detailed description of the product.

All of the cleansing oil comes in a pump bottle, making it less of a hassle to dispense the product out onto my hands.

The pump has a lock feature that is easily adjusted by turning the knob upwards to close it and downwards to open it. This way, it will stay secure should accidents happen.

When it comes to cleansing oils, I tend to scour the list of ingredients for mineral oil, petrolatum, alcohol, and tea tree. Those are the things that usually irritates my skin or cause a reaction (redness and/or acne).

I was so happy when I didn't find any of those ingredients in this cleansing oil. Even though it still contains Parfum, I don't really mind because that is the last ingredient in the list. It has salicylic acid in it, good for preventing future acne from appearing on my face.

However, there is isopropyl myristate present as the second ingredient which may aggravate acne in some skin condition since it tends to be pore-clogging. Thankfully, I didn't have any problems with it so far. *phew* Probably because it is a wash off type that doesn't stay too long on the skin, unlike creams or lotions. Oh, this is the ingredient that helps reduce the 'greasiness' of a product, making the product felt lighter and less oily.

This cleansing oil also doesn't use a lot of preservatives, so it is best to be used until 6 months after opening the product. Cool.

Compared to other previous cleansing oils I've used in the past, this one in particular is thinner and more of a watery consistency. When seen in photos, it will look like water since it is a transparent liquid.

Most cleansing oils have a thicker consistency, almost like olive oil. Since this is targeted for people with oily skin, that is probably the reason why it has a thinner consistency.

Easy to use

On a dry face full with makeup, I spread this evenly all over my face and massage it gently for 1-2 minutes. I sometimes get carried away and took a while because I was enjoying the mini-face-massage-session whenever I use this cleansing oil.

These are usually the movements that I use to remove makeup. I don't rub my eyeliner and mascara with this cleansing oil since the rubbing movements can be harsh to the delicate skin around my eyes.
1. I use two pumps for my whole face and rub my hands together to spread the oil evenly.
2. I start massaging my face from the inner part outwards in a gentle motion.
3. Moving on to my forehead, I gently do circular and straight motions outward
4. The pores on my nose is next and all I do is move from the outer part inwards.
5. Don't forget the chin area. I use circular motions to get the dirt off my face.
6. The last motion is circular motions on my cheeks, brushing it against the way my hair grows. This will get the dirt out for sure.
After that, all I do is rinse it with lukewarm water and pat dry with a towel. I don't usually follow up with a face wash when it's not yet bedtime.

Cleansing power

After looking at the ingredients and consistency of this product, it's time to test it out. The first test is just to show you how well it removes makeup on my hand. I have swatched a couple of makeup products from foundation to waterproof mascara to see how it performs.

Reduce acne occurrence

This particular cleansing oil claims to "wash away pore concerns - enlarged pores and clogged pores". Well, it does wash away the clogged pores on my skin, but it doesn't reduce the size of my pores. Probably because I'm blessed with huge pores to begin with. It is genetics, you know. ^_^

Anyway, I do feel that my acne rarely makes an appearance anymore, even during those PMS period. I reckon it's because of the deep cleaning that this oil does, thus leaving my pores unclogged and clean.

Smooth~ operator..

Right after rinsing, other cleansing oils will usually leave a greasy residue, forcing me to use face wash right afterwards, but this one doesn't. My face feels clean, refreshed and smooth without any of that oily feeling.

As someone with oily skin, I was first intimidated by the thought of applying an oil-based product on my face. However, this cleansing oil has a thinner consistency, almost water-like that doesn't feel heavy or rich for my oily skin type. Also, it is free from mineral oil and alcohol, so my skin is guaranteed not to have acne. It removes makeup easily without having the need to use a face wash afterwards because it doesn't leave a greasy residue behind.

I know the price is expensive, but I think it was worth the money for my kinda-spolied-skin. Have you tried cleansing oils to remove your makeup? What do you think about it? Let me know in the comments below and until then, I'll see you later~
