DOAPJ DIY: Brush Cleaning Thingamajig

Friday, April 12, 2013

Hello, lovelies~ A few weeks ago, Sigma launched their brush cleaning glove. Although it may seem effective, the price tag on it is way too expensive for me at USD $40.00 (shipping not included). So, I looked up a DIY that resembles that studded oven glove.

I found secretlifeofabionerd's youtube channel and her video on making a brush cleaning tablet, which has a similar function to that rubber glove. You can see her video down below for clearer instructions.

After watching that video, I am super duper pumped on making it. Now, I am not crafty whatsoever, especially when it comes to DIYs, but I thought I'd give this a go. So, here is how I spent last weekend frustated over glue, hahaha..

Materials needed

  • A clipboard
  • A glue gun
  • Extra glue sticks
  • and PATIENCE (which I lack severely ^_^;; )

How to make it

Heat the glue gun for about 5 minutes. This makes sure that the glue will come out smoothly without any problems. Biar ga pake nyandet kalo kata orang Indo.

After that, CAREFULLY 'pull' the trigger of the glue gun to dispense the glue and form shapes on the clipboard. You can create circles, wavy lines, or whatever you want. This will help remove the makeup residue on the brush.

You can continue to create those shapes all the way to the bottom of the clipboard, but I was too frustrated by the glue gun, so I only did a quarter of the clipboard.

All you have to do then is wait for the glue to dry completely. I left mine for 5 hours because I forgot about it, hahaha.. Anyway, the thin glue strands can be trimmed with scissors to make it neat.

When it's all dry, you're done! Time to test it under the tap. I wet my brush, pour a bit of soap, swirl it for a moment and rinse. All done without having to wet my hands thoroughly, yeaaay~ ^_^

Thanks to secretlifeofabionerd for this DIY tutorial, definitely helps a lot! Check out her channel for more DIY videos, especially if you like sewing. I can't sew for my life, hiks..

Funny story about this DIY is that after I finished making this and in the process of trying it out, Mr. G saw me and wanted to swirl the brushes on the board as well. He then continued washing some of the other ones, just because of this thingamajig, hahaha.. Hmmm, I can make him wash my brushes now.. *evil laughter*

No la, I'm not that evil, hahaha.. Do you think you'll be trying this out for your brushes? Let me know in the comments below. Anyway, hope this post helps and until then, I'll see you later~
