DOAPJ Do-It-Yourself: Daily Brush Cleanser

Friday, March 22, 2013

Hello, lovelies~ Have you always wanted to get a brush cleanser, but never got to because it was hard to find and a bit expensive? I've always wanted to buy a brush cleanser since I do use powder almost everyday and I'm always too lazy to wash it every single day.

A story is coming up. Prepare for...

Phanie's ramblings!!
*echoes*

So, a few weeks ago, I was at home arranging my beauty items when I had one of those ideas. *insert me with a light bulb on top of my head* I looked at my makeup removing water and thought, "If it removes my makeup, is it possible to remove the makeup residue on my brushes?".

Phanie being Phanie, immediately tried it out on a dirty brush. To my surprise, it DOES remove the makeup residue on my brushes! How-eva~ It does make my brush really wet and sticky, ewhhhh...

So, I was thinking of adding something else to prevent that from happening. After a few tries, here is what I come up with.

Tadaaaaaa~ I put it in a cute bottle, so I get motivated to clean my brushes everyday, hahaha.. I hope you find this post helpful~

What I use

  • Any makeup remover water
  • Alcohol (70% is enough)
  • An empty spray bottle (preferably a cute one!)

How I make it

At first, I tried 50:50, but I find that it's not concentrated and took a while to get makeup off. I increased the makeup remover water ration up to 70, leaving alcohol 30.

The makeup remover water will be the one that removes the makeup, whereas the alcohol will dry the brushes quicker and disinfects them.

All you have to do is just measure the ingredients and pour them in your designated spray bottle. If you want to be precise, you can always grab a measuring cup, mix it in a bowl, then pour it through a funnel into the spray bottle.

Let's test it out!

I've tried cleaning my brushes with this DIY brush cleanser and so far, nothing bad has happened to my brushes. Just for reference, I used it on my Sigma F80 flat top kabuki brush, Masami Shouko brushes, Etude House foundation brush, bare minerals flawless face brush, and elf powder brush.

For the demonstration, I'm going to use it on my Sigma brush. It is used almost everyday to blend out my BB cream and/or foundation, so it is bound to get dirty.

All I did was spritz some on tissues and swipe the brush back and forth to clean it out. Repeat if necessary. I recommend using a paper towel or a towel since tissues tend to break easily because they're thin.

So, I hope this post is helpful to those who want to clean their brushes daily or just a quick process of disinfecting them. I used to use baby wipes to cleanse them daily, but I find that they took a while to dry and I only use a small portion of the tissue. That's kinda like wasting the rest of it.

What do you use for daily cleansing your brushes? Tell me in the comments below and until then, I'll see you later~
