Review: Derma e Hyaluronic Acid Rehydrating Serum

Thursday, May 03, 2012

Hello, lovelies~ I have been searching high and low for a hyaluronic acid based serum ever since I hopped on the retinoic acid bandwagon. I love using retinoic acid, but it dries out my skin so much that it left dry patches around the edges of my nose and mouth. So, when I found this, I was excited to try it out.

Derma e Hyaluronic Acid Rehydrating Serum

Hyaluronic acid has an amazing ability to bind moisture to skin to soften, smooth, tone and rehydrate. Fortified with skin vitamins and amino acids, this anytime, oil-free serum, provides double-duty hydration and radiance.

Availability: Guardian stores
Size: 60 ml

The serum comes in a separate white and blue color themed box. It has the ingredients list and a short description of the product. The product comes in a pump bottle, which is something I adore in any product. The price is on the higher side, starting at Rp 150,000 if I'm not mistaken Rp 470,000, according to mariamarciatj . I keep forgetting the price for each of the products I review, my brain cells are dying, I guess, lol.

This brand claims to be free of parabens, cruelty-free and eco-friendly. It uses phenoxyethanol and ethylhexylglycerin as its preservatives, which is bactericide (kills the bacteria from contaminating the product) in nature and a good alternative to formaldehyde releasing preservative (DMDM Hydantoin, Quaternium-15, Imidazolidinyl urea, Diazolidinyl urea). For those allergic to silicones, this might not be for you because it contains dimethicone. It's unfortunate that it still contains fragrance, which may be slightly irritating for those bearing the sensitive skin type label.

The serum is a white lotion-textured liquid with a fresh scent. It gets absorbed to my skin quite rapidly, leaving a non sticky and non greasy finish. It is slightly thicker than the average serum, so I would call this a moisturizer or lotion instead of a serum. I use this on my combination skin type and my T zone doesn't get too 'shiny' during the day and my U zone is adequately moisturized. Although the price is expensive, I splurged on this because I wanted to try a product that is paraben free and see what good it gives my skin. I do notice that  I rarely get pimples or acne now.

The texture of my skin is soft and smooth after using this serum. Probably because of the dimethicones, lol. This is an amazing ingredient that makes your skin velvety smooth, soft as if you've just sandpapered your face, but I digress. It claims to give radiance, but I don't really see a brightening effect from this serum. It's just more to the moisturizing side, since it does bind water strongly to the skin.

Overall, I liked this serum (or moisturizer) because of its non sticky finish and moisturizing property. Also, the absence of parabens in this product is one of the selling points in the era of 'organic' or 'natural' skincare. I wouldn't go as far as calling it a natural product because it still has a few ingredients that just screams 'chemically made by man'. However, if you are looking for a paraben free product, give this a try because it does its job and is worth every perak (not penny).

  5. Suki, it is a nice product, but if the dimethicone is omitted I guess the texture wouldn't feel as silky~ ^_^

  9. My skin is desiccated too as well as being acne-prone. I have found using a hyaluronic serum is unquestionably helping to alleviate this. The Clarions oil sounds lovely, I moderately the scent of Perfume. hyaluronic acid serum
