Skin Whitening Ingredient: Azelaic Acid

hello, lovelies~ Let's continue where I left off with the series of skin whitening ingredient post. This time, I am going to discuss briefly on another ingredient that helps lighten the skin, azelaic acid.

What is Azelaic Acid?
✎ A natural dicarboxylic acid that is commonly found in wheat, rye and barley
✎ Used to treat acne, inflammation on the skin and hyperpigmentation
✎ Available in cream (20%) or gel (15%) formulations

How It Works
✎ inhibits the DNA and energy production of melanocytes (the molecule responsible for dark spots)

Possible Reactions
✎ Local skin irritation (redness, scaling, itching, burning sensation)
✎ Photosensitivity (rarely)

Directions For Use
✎ Apply a thin layer over the problematic areas (be it acne or dark spots) twice a day

Where To Get It
According to, it is available in Indonesia under the name Aza 20, Zelface and Zeliris. However, I'm still trying to find these at my local pharmacy. I'll update you when I get my hands on them (or one of them).

That is the brief post on Azelaic Acid, an acne and skin depigmenting agent. I hope you find this useful and I will add more information when I get more. Thanks for reading and as always, I'll see you in my next post~ ^_^ ♥
