Dine With Me : Pizza Marzano

Friday, December 30, 2011

Whenever someone asks me what Italians really eat, all I can think of is pizza and pasta. Although, I do believe they have other national foods, aside from those two (^_^). However, since I can't go to Italy just yet, I'll have to settle with eating pizza here.
Their simple logo
My favorite restaurant for pizza and pasta is Pizza Marzano. I have been a regular here for almost a year, I think. My first experience eating at Pizza Marzano is at the outlet in Senayan City where my friend is celebrating her birthday a few years ago. Ever since then, I've been a huge fan of their Dough Balls.

A few days ago, I went to their outlet in Kelapa Gading Mall 3 with Mr. G and my little brother. We ordered our favorites, starting from dough balls to pizza. So, let's start!

The interior of the restaurant. Just click to enlarge
The atmosphere of the restaurant makes me feel relaxed, probably because of the blue themed interior.

For starters, I always order Dough Balls. Sometimes, we just dine here to eat the dough balls! I like the freshly baked dough, especially slathered with their special garlic butter. The flavorful aroma of the garlic with the soft, warm dough is just a match made in heaven. Or, at least, my heaven (^o^)/. Sorry for the missing picture of the dough balls, we ate them all before I could take a picture.
Pollo e Funghi
I ordered my new favorite pasta, Pollo e Funghi. I don't know whether this is a temporary menu only available on Christmas or a soon-to-be permanent resident on the menu. All I know is that, surprisingly, I like the taste of pesto with pasta. It's not a creamy sauce like carbonara. The pesto sauce combined with mushrooms and chicken, sauteed in fragrant olive oil, and to top it all off, an al dente spaghetti is mixed in the sauce. The dish has a lighweight feel, without it being too oily, despite it being sauteed in olive oil.
Penne Picante
Another pasta dish that we ordered is Penne Picante. It is a dish that is served in a small, round baking casserole with penne pasta topped with bechamel sauce and tomato sauce, mixed with slices of beef. When it came to the table, the sauce was still bubbling. The sauce is absolutely, over the top delicious! It is has a spiciness to it that is not too overpowering. The dish is seasoned perfectly and the penne is cooked to a precise al dente level.  I can see this being my favorite dish at this restaurant.
Quattro Carni
Dining here wouldn't be complete if we didn't order any pizza. We decided on Quatro Carni pizza, which has slices of spicy beef, chicken, pepperoni, and diced green bell peppers. I'm not a big fan of green bell peppers, in fact, anything that has bell peppers in it is a no no for me. However, I like this pizza because the bell peppers are diced and doesn't have that overwhelming bell pepper taste. It has a subtle taste of green bell peppers combined with the meat and cheese. The spiciness and seasoning of this pizza is well balanced. I like the thin crust that Marzano has, it just makes it even more enjoyable to eat.

Overall, this is my go-to restaurant for pizza because of their simple and flavorful dishes. Also, I just like 'em dough balls! So, what do you like on your pizza? ^_^

Phanie's Prized Products : December 2011 Edition

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

As we all may notice, 2011 is coming to a close and 2012 is upon us. I have been having fun this year with my job and life, so it was a good year for me, especially in the beauty department. I haven't launched my skincare line, though, but that's not a problem. Without further ado, here is my monthly favorites of December 2011.

NYX Lipliner Pencil in Citrine

I just reviewed this lip liner in the previous post, so go check that out. In short, it is a must have product for someone who likes a natural looking lips without the stickiness of a lipstick or a lip gloss.

Marcks Venus Loose Powder

I bought this a month ago and have been using it as a setting powder over my BB cream. I like the natural, semi matte finish that it gave to my face and the lightweight feel on my face.

Sariayu Liquid Lip Color in Merak Kasmaran
I don't particularly like the liquid lip color, but I do like the gloss. It has a sweet, fruity scent and is not too sticky on my lips.

Vaseline Cocoa Glow Body Lotion

This has been my favorite body lotion of the month! I like using it after a shower, especially when it is raining cats and dogs outside. It just gives me a warm feeling like I'm drinking a cup of hot cocoa in my room whilst watching the rain drops fell on my window pane. Sounds really poetic, doesn't it? ^^

Dove Anti Perspirant Deodorant Go Fresh

I like the scent of green tea and the practicality of applying it. It keeps my armpits dry all day, despite the activity of running errands and whatnot.

Liesse Juicy Shower

I like to use this whenever I don't wash my hair because it gives a sweet scent and eliminates an frizz I might have.

NYX Slide On Pencil Eyeliner in Brown Perfection

I have been a gel eyeliner girl, but lately I'm liking this pencil eyeliner because of its softness and easy to use properties. Also, it stays on my eyelid all day, without any smudging.

I'm sorry for the stock photos at the moment. I will replace them with mine as soon as I can setup right. In the meantime, I hope you enjoyed my last monthly favorites of the year 2011!

Cleansing Dream

Review : Etude House Cleansing Dream Moisture Cleansing Oil

Wednesday, December 28, 2011

Growing up with oily skin, I'm always conscious of what I put on my face. When I heard of cleansing oil a few years ago, I was the first one to avoid using it because of my oily skin. However, now that I have combination skin, cleansing oil became something that piqued my interest. So, a few months ago, I bought a cleansing oil from Etude House and gave it a try. Here is the review.

Etude House Cleansing Dream Moisture Cleansing Oil
Cleansing oil with a pure sensation specially formulated to gently remove makeup, oil and impurities from complexion.
Active Ingredients: Safflower Seed Oil & Secale Cereale (Rye) Seed Extracts.
Mineral Oil Free/Alcohol Free/Clinically Tested.

Ingredients
will be updated as soon as I find the box

How I Use It
  • I use 2 pumps on my palms
  • Rub hands together and massage over dry face with makeup
  • Rinse with lukewarm water and pat dry with towel

What I Like About It
(^_^) It's available in most Etude House counters, although the price is more expensive  compared to online shops
(^_^)  I got mine online for Rp 120,000 (prices may vary)
(^_^)  The packaging comes with a pump, making it efficient in dispensing the product
(^_^)  The scent is not too strong, but it has a slight floral scent to it
(^_^)  It is able to remove my makeup easily, even waterproof mascara
(^_^)  So far, it hasn't caused any bad skin reaction (allergies or acne)
(^_^)  It doesn't leave a greasy film after rinsing

What I Hate About It
So far, I have nothing that I dislike about this product.

Summary
Overall, this is one of my favorite makeup remover. It just glides on my face, has a nice scent and takes off all off my makeup in one go.

Citrine

Review : NYX Lipliner Pencil '843 Citrine'

Tuesday, December 27, 2011

I rarely apply lip products, except for lip balms (and tinted ones). Don't get me wrong, I love lipsticks and lip glosses, but sometimes, I just can't stand the taste and stickiness of it. I wanted a precise, fast and non sticky or greasy lip color for everyday use.

So, I bought my first lip liner from NYX a couple of weeks ago. Technically, it's not my FIRST ever lip liner, but it is the first since my last one in high school. Here is my review on it.

NYX Lipliner Pencil '843 Citrine'

Slim, trim but never prim, our lip pencils come in 60 dashing shades—from auburn to orange and traffic-stopping red. The buttery, long-wearing lip liner formula goes on easily and resists bleeding. Available in 60 shades.

Ingredients
Sorbitan Isostearate, Isocetyl Stearate, Phenyl Trimethicone, Polyethylene, Euphorbia Cerifera (Candelilla) Wax, Butyrospermum Parkii (Shea Butter) Unsaponifiables, Beeswax, Simmondsia Chinensis (Jojoba) seed oil, Caprylic/Capri Triglyceride, Nylon-12, Octyldodecanol, Polyglyceryl-2 Diisostearate, Silica, Copernicia Cerifera (Carnauba) Wax, Hydrogenated, Coconut Oil, Tocopherol, VP/Hexadecene Copolymer, Stearalkonium Hectorite, Stearyl Glycyrrhetinate, Propylparaben, Prolylene Carbonate

How I Use It

I draw on the edges of my lips and filling them in within the lines.

What I Like About It
It's available in most NYX counters (although, probably more expensive compared to online shops)
The price is affordable, starting at Rp 30,000 (I bought mine at an online shop)
The packaging is a common pencil with a cap on the end
The size is travel friendly because it will fit in most makeup bags
This line has a variety of 60 different shades! 0.o''
It's easy to use. All I have to do is draw and fill in my lips
The color payoff is great because I don't need to tug back and forth to get the color out
It has a creamy texture, hence it doesn't dry out my lips
If I don't eat or drink, this can stay up to 5 hours on my lips

What I Hate About It
☹ It needs to be sharpened after a few uses. I often lose my sharpener, so that's a problem

Swatch

Top : Bare lips, Bottom : NYX Citrine

Summary
Overall, this is one of my favorite lip products, aside from tinted lipbalms. It gives my lips a healthy tint without the drying it out. The color is suitable for everyday use on my lips because it is the type of color that looks natural.

I would recommend this to :

  • Someone who won't mind drawing precise lines
  • Someone who wants a moisturizing lip liner
  • Someone who won't mind sharpening it over and over

Swatch : Maybelline Moisture Extreme Lipstick

Thursday, December 22, 2011

I know I'm super late on these lipsticks, but I just found out about them the other day and have been liking them a lot. So, here is a swatch and initial impressions on them.

From top to bottom : Bonbon Pink, Petal Pink, Plum Perfect, Angel Rose

A nude pink ^^

A cherry pink shade

It's more red

It has a purple hue, but my camera somehow doesn't capture it

Initial impression on them is they are so creamy. It's not drying out my lips, which is a great plus! One lipstick retails at around Rp 30,000 (prices may vary), so it's not to expensive. I think I may start collecting their colors. ^_^

Long Extreme Double Stretch

Review : Maybelline New York Long Extreme Double Stretch

Sunday, December 18, 2011

Hello, mascara lovers. Today, I'm going to do a review on one of Maybelline's mascara that I bought a few months ago. Hope this helps~

Maybelline New York Long Extreme Double Stretch

How I Use It
I curl my eye lashes, apply the base coat (1) and apply the mascara (2). I apply it from my roots, wiggling the wand back and forth all the way to the end of the lashes.

What I Like About It
✔ It's available in most drugstores or department stores, as long as they have a Maybelline counter
✔ The concept of priming my eyelashes before mascara is quite interesting

What I Hate About It
✘ As soon as I apply the primer (the white stuff in tube number 1), my eyelashes immediately droop, losing their curl
✘ After applying the mascara (tube number 2), it drops even further that I can't even see my eyelashes
✘ It smudged a little on my lower lash line

Pictures/Swatch (just click on the pictures to enlarge them)
My bare eyelashes before it's curled

After it's curled with my Majolica Majorca eyelash curler

After applying the base (number 1 tube). It  immediately drops! T_T

After applying the mascara formula (number 2 tube)

It does SLIGHTLY lengthen my eyelashes, but it doesn't hold my curl

It is unnoticeable T____T
Summary
Overall,  I don't like this mascara primarily because it makes my eyelashes drop, despite my efforts of curling them beforehand. I feel that the formula is on the wet side compared to Magnum (yellow tube). The primer (white stuff) didn't do anything to my eyelashes, aside from dropping them. I haven't tried crying while using them, so I can't really judge (right now) on the waterproof condition. The price is in the same class as most Maybelline macaras which is under Rp 100,000 (prices may vary).

I would recommend this to :
Someone who likes a mascara with a wet formula
Someone who already has gorgeous long eyelashes and curled

I would love to hear your thoughts about this mascara if you have tried it. Also, a few tips on how to apply them would be great. ^_^

Drugstore Brands

Review : Ristra Sun Care pH Balanced SPF 17

Saturday, December 17, 2011

Time for another sunscreen review, lovely readers! This time, I chose a local brand called Ristra. I bought this a  few months ago and I'm pretty sure that I included this in a haul, which you can check out here. I used it on and off, alternating it with my Etude House Be Clear Moisturizer.

Ristra Sun Care ph Balanced SPF 17

Sun protecting agent, SPF 17 formulation
Protect the skin from adverse sunray's reaction by screening the UVA and UVB rays

Prevent hyperpigmentation
With pH balanced

For all skin types
Without making it dry and make skin stay moist

Ingredients

How I Use It

I squeeze a fingertip length and apply it evenly all over my face and neck.

What I Like About It
It is available in most supermarkets at Jakarta
The price starts at Rp 17,000 for the 40 g version
The packaging has a flip cap. It's easier to close the tube once I'm done using it
✔ The texture is in between a lotion and a cream
It doesn't have a greasy or sticky feeling after application
So far, it hasn't caused any bad skin reactions

What I Hate About It
It doesn't state how much PA protection I'm getting

Summary
Overall, I think this is a decent drugstore sunscreen. It isn't phenomenal nor is it the worst among other sunscreen. The level of SPF (17) that it offers may be quite beneficial for those with oilier skin types because the lower the SPF, the less sticky/greasy the sunscreen is. However, it does provide a lower SPF protection compared to other brands (Skin Aqua, L'oreal, etc), so I would have to reapply more often.

I would recommend this to :
 Someone with combination skin
Someone who won't mind reapplying every 2 hours
Someone who travels since the size is quite compact

Nichijou : Pre-Christmas 2011 Days

Wednesday, December 14, 2011

I have been all over the place lately, literally. I went to Puncak with Mr. G a couple of days ago, went for meetings, getting things for my gran's upcoming 49 days event after she passed away sometime around last month and managing my online shop.

Fortunately, everything is going so well that I haven't really got the chance to post a review on products. I have been holding a Christmas giveaway, which you can check out HERE. So, today, I thought I'm just gonna show my life lately in pictures.

Poffertjes at Puncak.

Sate Kambing (Goat (?) Satay) at Puncak. Mr. G loves this a lot, though he should cut back on them.

My bestie had her birthday two days ago and she gave out cupcakes as a thank you for the wonderful wishes. Isn't it just cute?!

On the way to Puncak. The clouds look really fluffy ^__^

I wanted to get this snowman doll, but he's too expensive said Mr. G. T_T

My first attempt at baking a Christmas Cake

A slice of the Christmas Cake. Luckily, Mr. G likes it!

Last but not least, I had my haircut two days ago!! What do you think of it?
P.S : Here is the prize for this week's giveaway. Good luck to all of you!
