Anime Favorite : Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Boku-tachi wa Mada Shiranai

Sunday, July 31, 2011

Japan animation has been entertaining me ever since I was a child. However, I began watching anime when I was 13 years old. One of the very first anime I watched was Serial Experiments Lain. To be honest, up to this day, I still haven't finished the whole episodes since I find it quite confusing and rather boring at first. Nevertheless, I continued watching other anime and fell in love with a bunch of them.

Today, I just wanted to share one of the latest anime that has touched my heart and made me cry like a baby. Yes, I said cry, you didn't read anything wrong.
It means 'We Still Don't Know the Name of the Flower We Saw That Day'
Ano Hi Mita Hana no Namae o Bokutachi wa Mada Shiranai is the culprit behind the wet T-shirt that my bf was wearing when I watched this.

It was a story about friendship and how they reunite after one of their friends died by accident. The ending wasn't a Hollywood ending where everyone was happy and impossible things are forced to happen. It was a bittersweet ending where they understand each other and tried to be friends again. You just have to watch it to understand why I cried. No, bawled, to be exact.

I also love the soundtracks of this animes, both the opening and ending.

Here is the opening soundtrack of this anime, Ano Hana for short. The title is Aoi Shiori (Blue Bookmark) by Galileo Galilei. For me, the vocal is very soft and calming, kinda reminds me of the summer breeze as I sat on a balcony and the wind softly whispering in my ears. It's just something very soothing about this song. I'll post the lyrics in another post, so not to overcrowd this post.

This is the PV of the song, I still can't find the OP.

The ending is secret base ~Kimi ga Kureta Mono~ (10 years after ver.) sung by Kayano Ai & Tomatsu Haruka & Hayami Saori. This is indeed a song that is well-made for this anime. It's a slow song that utilizes numerous musical instruments in the background. It kinda reminds me of rainy days where everything is soaking, yet there is that happiness in watching the water droplets on the leaves. I love this song so much. The tempo is just right and despite all that various musical instruments on the background, it joins in harmony, making me feel warm inside.

Well, I enjoyed posting about my current favorite anime. Lemme know if you like these kinds of posts in the comment section. Until then, be sure to check out this anime! Mata ne~

Phanie's Prized Products: July 2011 Edition

Saturday, July 30, 2011

July is ending so soon, but I'm looking forward to next month because it's more exciting for me personally. My bf and my grandmother's birthday is coming up on August, so I can't wait. Meanwhile, here are my favorite items of July.

I'll start with a perfume since I've been wanting to mention this specific fragrance ever since forever to you guys. It's a perfume from Hugo Boss called Femme, which means something girly, I would have to guess. Well, it's a no brainer to guess what the name means.
Hugo Boss Femme. It's already my second bottle.

Anyway, it has a light, floral fragrance detected by my nose, but for a more detailed description of the fragrance, I took this from their website.
The writing is inscribed on the inner part of the bottle

Hugo Boss Femme is a floral sheer oriental fragrance that represents ultra feminine beauty. Complimentary ingredients form a radiant cloud of sophisticated femininity.

The fresh citrus Tangerine note lifts the emotions, preparing the senses for the floral bouquet.

The Freesia note carries the luminous scent of Stephanotis and Oriental Lily.

These notes are further heightened by Rose petals for a radiating floral aura of utmost femininity.

Fortification of the aura with a creamy musk-like accord gives the scent a silky-smooth finish.

From that description, I hope you can sorta imagine how it smells like. Notice the Stephanotis flower written in the description?? I googled it and the flower is just cute, adorable and innocent-looking!
The sheath (kelopak) of the flower is just evenly formed and it's white! My fav color!
*clears throat*

Okay, getting on track with my July faves, the second item is the infamous SKIN79 Hot Pink BB Cream. I know, I know, another new BB cream, Phanie? Yes, I like to venture and try out new BB creams, instead of getting in a rut and using one BB cream all my life. Life is worth exploring, people ^.^/.  Anyway, I still use my old BB creams from my previous months, don't worry. I already finished the Diamond Prestige from SKIN79!!

I like the coverage that this BB cream gives. It conceals my mild acne scars and gives an extra-kick in the morning when my face is looking dull and fatigued. This BB cream is able to last for 5 hours without melting or sliding off of my face, which is a good thing. However, the shade is a bit grey for my skin tone, but it goes off after a few minutes of application.

The next item is Skin Aqua UV Moisture Milk SPF 50+/PA+++. I like the light texture and non greasy feeling after I applied it.

Another fave this month is Kose hand cream. I like this better than my Kiehls because of the affordable price, retailing at IDR 45,000. It has a creamy texture, absorbed rapidly and doesn't feel greasy on my hands.

I have also been using Revlon Colorburst lipstick in Nude. It's one of those 'like-my-lips-but-better' color. It feels very moisturizing and the color just stays vibrant for around 3 hours, given that you're not eating or drinking.

My first Beauty Credit Sun Pact SPF 50/PA+++ is just perfect for those sunny days when I want a bit powder to look matte, but still stay protected from the sun. It's kinda like a sunscreen, but in a compact powder form, so it's really efficient to apply without having to take my makeup off.

Remember the swap I had with a friend overseas? I ended up really liking Physician's Formula Happy Mood Booster Blush in Natural. It doesn't make me look like I have rosacea. It looks as if I'm blushing naturally, love it!

The brush that I've been favoring this month is the e.l.f. Complexion Brush. It's a multi-function brush where I can use it to apply my powder and even my blush. The bristles are super soft my face loves it!

A non-beauty product fave this month is a stain remover from Tide in a form of a marker. I'm clumsy and ten to spill food/drinks on my shirts, so I got this earlier this month. It has been a help all throughout the month!! It removes stain like there's no tomorrow.

Just rub the stain with that marker-like tip until it's gone.

The last item is my favorite drink, aside from mineral water, Dilmah Jasmine Green Tea. I am tea addict and have been drinking them for 6 years now. I drink 3 to 4 glasses a day, along with 5-6 glasses of water, so it's kinda balanced. I like the calming and soothing scent of the jasmine and how it's not overwhelming the green tea.

That's all for my July faves and I'm really glad that I'm not late in posting this post. Yeay, me!! ^.^/

Review: Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation

Friday, July 22, 2011

I was cleaning out my drawers and shelves when I found this and realized that I haven't reviewed it. I remembered the haul post I wrote, but the review never came. So, without further ado, here is the review on the Healthy Mix foundation by Bourjois.

Sorry, I used a stock photo. My camera won't pick up the pump well.
My shade is number 51 Vanille Clair

Ingredients
Water, Dimethicone, Cyclopentasiloxane, Butylene Glycol, PEG-10 Dimethicone, Aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium chloride, Disteardimonium Hectorite, Disodium Stearoyl Glutamate, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Tocopheryl Acetate, Alcohol Denat, Parfum, Panthenol, Alcohol, Aluminum hydroxide, Silica, Propylene Glycol, Sodium Hyaluronate, Glycerin, Pyrus malus, Zingiber officinale, Prunus armeniaca, Potassium Sorbate, Sodium Benzoate, Benzoic Acid, Sorbic Acid, Mica, CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499, CI 77007, CI 77891

How I Use It
I use half a pump of this foundation and apply it from the center part of my face, outwards with a damp sponge.
Healthy Mix Shades.
Just click on the pic to enlarge it.
Swatch of shade 51, Vanille Clair
When my skintone is darker, I'll just mix this with a drop of my Revlon Colorstay foundation in medium beige.

What I Like About It
  • It's readily available at Watsons, here in Jakarta
  • The packaging has a pump dispenser
  • It has a soft floral scent, but disappears after blending
  • The creamy texture helped conceal my flaky patches
  • It stayed for about 6 hours on my face
  • It photographs beautifully, not producing a white cast like any other foundation, thus perfect for night time events where flash photography rules
  • It didn't break me out at all
  • It's easily removed with my makeup remover. I don't have to tug and scrub it off my face.
What I Hate About It
  • It was quite expensive for a 30 mL foundation, retailing at IDR 200,000-ish
Summary
It is a good foundation and I enjoyed using it. However, it does contain alcohol, but since I don't wear foundation often, I'm still allowing it. Besides, the content of alcohol is way down the list, unlike other foundations which states alcohol as their second or third ingredient.

Overall, I really like how this stayed on my face, but easily removed with a makeup remover. Also, it produced good photos without the white cast on my face as if I'm wearing a mask or worse, a ghost...

Dine With Me : Ten Ten Plaza Indonesia

Thursday, July 21, 2011

Japanese cuisine has always been one of my favorite amongst other cuisines. I'm always fond of their simple cooking methods such as deep frying, the rolling of sushis, and my favorite, udon.

Last week, a good friend of mine mentioned a new Japanese restaurant at Plaza Indonesia that will be opened on 20th July 2011. I jumped at the chance of trying out a new restaurant, specifically Japanese tempura restaurant. So, we went there at their grand opening along with my bf.

It's located at the basement of Plaza Indonesia, right next to Sari Ratu and in front of the escalator where Bakerzin used to be.

The restaurant has cute decorations that makes me want to stay longer, as I do like cute things, whatever the heck they are. It also has this frame of the restaurant's mascot, which is a family of tempura. The menu also has adorable pictures of the mascots right next to the dishes. Some are sleeping, some are fighting, all of them are just too cute!
Tendon with Miso Soup
Let's just move on to what we ordered before I faint from all the cuteness. Since they are having a promotion on their Tendon (Tempura served on top of a bowl of warm white rice), we ordered one of those.

At first sight, the tempura looks crispy and I can tell that the chef is very generous with the batter because it has those little crunchy bits scattered on the sides. It was deep-fried to a perfect golden brown that looks very mouthwatering.

Moving on to the taste, the shrimp was sweet without any fishy smell to it. It was one of the best tempura I've eaten in a while. The shrimp tasted very fresh and succulent, complimenting the crispy batter covering the shrimp.
My Tempura Udon. Love it!
I ordered Tempura Udon just because I can't have too many udons. Nah, I kid. I just adore and LOVE udon and other types of noodles. My bf has a song about that, but I'll tell you about that in the future ^^.
My bf's udon, it was Niku Udon or something.
I know I haven't been to Japan, but up to this point, this is the best udon I've ever tasted. The texture of the udon is neither soft nor hard, it's more of a chewy texture, but in a good, scrumptious way. The soup is well-seasoned, making it just the right balance of sweet, salty and meaty. It's not too greasy and is very friendly to my palette.

My friend ordered the Tempura Hotdog because she thought it looks appetizing and unique. It was quite large with the tempura in the middle of the hot dog. For me, it wasn't that special since the sauce itself doesn't really stand out. However, it is a unique way of eating tempura.

The takoyaki balls are always a favorite of mine in Japanese cuisine. One portion comes with five takoyaki balls, complete with the takoyaki sauce, mayonaise and katsuoboshi. It's not the best takoyaki, but I like the texture. The outside is crunchy, but the insides are soft and juicy, filled with benishoga and a piece of octopus.

For dessert, we ordered parfaits because we all suffer a sweet tooth ^^. Plus, the parfait looks cute so I ordered it, typical me.

I liked mine the best because I simply love chocolate. The ice cream is home made, I think, because it doesn't taste generic.
My bf - Me - My Bestie.
They have over-sized props for their photo booth during the Grand Opening.
Overall, I like going to this restaurant to spend my time with loved one and friends. The price is affordable, retailing at around IDR 50,000-ish. I'll definitely be eating here more often because the udon and tempura is just delectable.
