Review : Pixy UV Whitening Gentle Cleansing Express

Tuesday, March 29, 2011

Recently, I have been wanting to look for my Etude House Cleansing Dream Cleansing Water because it is quite expensive for a makeup remover. It does remove my makeup well, but I just wanted to look for another cheaper option of a makeup removing water. I do try to substitute all of my beauty arsenals to drugstore items, good ones of course!

When I went to MGK Hypermart for the usual weekly grocery shopping with my bf, I stumbled on the new line from Pixy called UV Whitening and Acnebrite. Apparently, the UV whitening is for dull skin and Acnebrite is for acne prone skin. They have new products starting from cleansers to pressed powder. I picked up the Gentle Cleansing Express fro the UV Whitening line since I rarely have acne anymore, thanks to Retin-A. After trying it out for a whole week, this is what I think of it.

Pixy UV Whitening Gentle Cleansing Express
Want a practical face cleanser that gives a brighter and more moisturized face? Claims to contain natural whitening powder for a brighter looking face and soya bean lecithin and vitamin C derivatives. Cleanses face, removes dirt, makeup, and excess oil  without making the face dry, leaving a clean and moisturized face.
The two variants of Cleansing Express from PIXY.
Ingredients
Water, PEG-7 Caprylic/Capric Glycerides, Butylene Glycol, Pachyrrhizus Erosus Root Extract,  Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Styrene/PVP Copolymer, Ethylhexyl Methoxycinnamate, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Lactic Acid, Glycerin, Hydroxylated Lecithin, Glycine Soja (Soybean) Seed Extract

How I Use It
I wet a cotton pad with the product and swipe it all over my face for total cleanliness.
A small size of the product.
What I Like About It
  • It's available in most supermarkets, i.e. Hypermart.
  • It has 2 variants. One for dull skin and the other for acne prone skin.
  • It's supeeeeeer affordableeee, at only IDR 12,000 for the smaller size.
  • The packaging is efficient as it has a flip-top and doesn't take too much space in my vanity.
Loving the packaging! ^.^
  • It's alcohol-free and irritant-free ingredients.
  • It removes all of my face products.
  • Only takes one cotton pad to remove all of my makeup.
  • It gives a fresh feeling on my face, it's not sticky at all.
  • It didn't irritate my face or broke me out with tons of zits

What I Hate About It
  • It has a perfume-y scent
  • It doesn't take off my eye makeup, i.e. waterproof mascara
  • It stings my eye a little bit
Summary
I used to love my Etude House Cleansing Dream Water for taking off my makeup because it's simple and clean. However, ever since I got this, I have been using this NONSTOP. It's insane how it can compete with my Etude House Cleansing Dream Water, but for a cheaper price. I highly recommend this for people looking for a makeup remover, but only for face product though. I think that eye makeup remover should be a separate product since the eye is a different area than the rest of our face.

Phanie's Faves : Seven to 7 Meat Shop and Cafe

Friday, March 18, 2011

Recently, I have been liking a certain restaurant in Pantai Indah Kapuk that serves beef cooked in many different ways. They have steaks, shabu-shabu, sandwiches, etc. Also, the variety of beef for steak ranges from Australian, Wagyu, grassfed, etc. So, if you want to indulge in a tender and juicy beef, you can choose Wagyu, but if you want to save up, but still want steaks, the Australian might be an option. However, if you want a healthier option, you can order the shabu-shabu, which offers a choice between Australian or US beef, sirloin or rib-eye. Thinking about it now, makes me droll already.

The other day, I went there with my bf for dinner. I got the shabu-shabu Rib-eye Australian beef (yeah, not so healthy with the rib-eye choice, there. Oh well.. ^.^) and he got the Australian rib-eye steak cooked medium rare. This is actually our second time eating here, so we kinda got the hang of ordering. Once you enter the restaurant, you'll see a display case of beef varities and you can choose immediately which one you want, then get your seat. You can also get seated then order the meat, whichever way you want. So, here is our dinner that night.

Oh! If you also get mushroom soup and salad for an additional IDR 50,000.
If you don't want it, that's fine.

The salad. I don't like salads.
My bf's steak. The dish is served in a simple and clean style. I like that. He had a side of mashed potatoes and two kinds of sauce (mushroom and black pepper).

This is a 200 grams of Australian Rib-eye steak (if I'm not mistaken). The grill marks are just neat.

The thickness of the steak. That's my bf waiting on the background while I'm taking pics of his food.

Medium rare, just the way he likes it.
My pot of shabu-shabu broth.

From left-right: garlic and radish, green onions and lime, chili. On the bottom is soy sauce

All fired up and ready to go! ^.^

The shabu-shabu menu comes in a set of 100 g of meat of your choice, 2 tofus, 2 Shitake mushrooms, 2 Cikuwas, 2 crab sticks, enoki mushrooms, pak choy and udon. Also, a bowl of rice!

Thinly sliced meat ready to be dipped into the broth.

My fave mushroom!
That is all we had that night. There were no after pictures since I was too stuffed to take more pics and we are not that into taking pics with each other. The service was top notch for a small restaurant, there is almost always someone at the door to greet you once you enter. The time of the food served is also fast. The waiters and waitresses are friendly and will cater to your every need. You can pay with cash, debit cards or credit cards, so paying is easy. The environment and ambiance of the cafe has a warm and cozy feeling. Kinda feels like home, really. Probably because of the neat and organized interior it has.

Overall, I really enjoyed dining here and will keep coming back for the steaks and shabu-shabu. Definitely a five star restaurant!

Review: Kiehls Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

Friday, March 11, 2011

Since I ran out of my favorite hand cream from Etude House Hand Bouquet, I thought I'll try a new hand cream from Kiehls. I went there a week ago in search for the infamous 'Unusually Rich-but-not-greasy-at-all Hand Cream with SPF 10' that Mizzglamorazzi has been raving about. However, I couldn't find it and the SA offered me the other hand cream, 'Ultimate Strength Hand Salve'. I went with it because when I tried it at the store it sinks into my skin quite rapidly. After a week of using it, here is my thought on it.

Kiehls Ultimate Strength Hand Salve

Formulated for the driest, most active hands, this heavy-duty moisture treatment is a thick, rich formula offering all-day care and protection. Our blend of select ingredients allows skin to actually draw and absorb water from the air, forming a "glove-like" protective barrier against moisture loss. This formula, which contains a blend of botanical oils as well as natural wax derived from Olive Oil, further soothes, moisturizes and conditions skin. This most effective preparation helps protect against and repair the appearance of severe dryness caused by heavy industrial work, manual labor, neglect, or exposure to harsh elements.

I got mine in the smaller size (2.5 fl. oz), just so I can fit it into my bag for everyday use.
I got the smaller size.
Ingredients
The shea butter is probably the most moisturizing ingredient of all.

How I use it
It's quite a big pea-size, huh? ^^;;;

I squeeze a pea-sized amount on the back of my hand and rub it together, as if washing my hands. I use this after each hand washing session.
Half blended.

What I Like About It

  • It's readily available here in Jakarta at most Kiehls counter. I got mine at Kelapa Gading Mall 3.
  • The packaging is hygienic, considering I don't have to dip my hands repeatedly to get the products.
  • The ingredients are all safe to use
  • The texture is thick, but once blended it feels like a lotion
  • The scent isn't offensive to my nose. It smells like shea butter and sesame oil, weird much?
  • It dries really fast, literally within seconds (10 seconds, give or take).
  • It really moisturizes my hands and locks the moisture within around 3-4 hours (give or take) without washing my hands.
  • The end result is a smooth and silky finish, which is what I'm looking for.

What I Hate About It

  • The price is too expensive for a hand cream. Still, I don't mind paying that much for a hand cream, since I do have the driest hands
  • It doesn't contain any sunscreen, which might not prevent wrinkles on my hands

Summary

I've never been more in love with a hand cream before! As the products claims, it REALLY is suitable for busy, active people who has no time waiting for a hand cream to be absorbed. I will definitely repurchase this again once I run out of it.

Review: NYX Studio Perfect Photo-Loving Primer

Thursday, March 10, 2011

I know I have a holy grail face primer from Smashbox, but that is for my very very oily skin. Right now, I'm having that dry, flaky patches on my cheeks and edges of my nose, so I have to skip the Smashbox as it will accentuate more of my dry patches.

So, the other day, I found this primer and thought I should give it a try since it's not as drying as the Smashbox primer.  I chose the green tinted primer since I do have redness on my cheeks.
Green tinted primer.
NYX Studio Perfect Primer

Prep face for makeup application by applying studio perfect primer. This soft formula spreads like butter and lays like silk on the face. It protects and creates a smooth and matte finish on the skin to absorb and spread foundation and powder evenly. the finished look is flawless.

Available in 3 shades: clear, lavender to brighten and illuminate yellow undertones, and green to reduce the appearance or red tones.
  • Clear creates a smooth and balanced finish and reduces the appearance of large pores and fine lines.
  • Green reduces the appearance of redness on the face.
  • Lavender brightens and illuminates yellow undertones and sallow looking skin.
Ingredients
Although it contains dimethicone, it certainly isn't as silicone-y as Smashbox.

How I Use It
Looks a lot like wasabi, doesn't it?

I squeeze a pea-sized amount and spread it evenly all over my forehead, cheeks, nose and chin. I use more products for areas that have more redness.

Has a small opening at the edge of the tube, making greater control at dispensing product.

What I Like About It
  • It's packaged in a squeeze tube. I can control how much I want to use
  • The price is not so expensive, retailing at IDR 119,000 at ChicPrincessa
  • It doesn't have a significant or terrible scent.
  • The texture is creamy, which provides moisture to my very dehydrated cheeks.
  • Once blended evenly all over my face, it has that silicone-y feel that Smashbox has. I don't mind silicone finishes.
  • It's not drying nor does it accentuate my dry patches
  • It's able to even out my skintone and tone down the redness I have on my cheeks.
What I Hate About It
  • It's not readily available at counter (at least, that's what I think) in Jakarta
  • It doesn't have a great oil control, since my T-zone will be oily after 2 hours.
  • May not be suitable for oily skin since it is quite moisturizing on my cheeks and my cheeks are dry atm.

Summary
For my current skin type, I am liking this primer a lot more than the Smashbox. It feels light on my face, but it moisturizes at the same time. The green tint did well for my redness in terms of toning it down. It certainly made my makeup last longer as I tried it underneath my BB cream.

Phanie's Prized Products: February 2011 Edition

Tuesday, March 01, 2011

I'm sorry I've been MIA lately and have been lacking in making posts here. So, I'm back with a February favorites post.

I got the travel size to try out.
Left-Right: No flash, With flash

The first item that I have been using all month is the Urban Decay Primer Potion in Original. You know, the one in the purple container. I have been using this to conceal the redness that's sometimes present on my eyelids. Also, it gives a sheen to my eyelids as if I'm wearing an eyeshadow. I love how this is so easy to put on, but might have to crack it open and depot it someday.

My current fave concealer. I use it on my blemishes because lately I have been under attack by the ZIT monsters just because it's that time of month again --" The packaging has a twist bottom, so you have to twist it to dispense the product.

Not quite a fan of the tip applicator, so I just spill the product  on the back of my hand and use my fingers to dab it on blemishes.
Left: Without flash; Right: With flash
Etude House Tint Gloss. I like the feel of the product on my lips. It's lightweight, glossy, and after a while, the gloss fades, but my lips still manage to have the color.
I'm not usually a fan of mascaras. but this one is different. It lengthens my lashes, dries quick, can hold the curl of my left eyelashes. Why? It's because my right eye has a heavy eyelid that droops and covers most of my eyelashes. That's why it only works on my left eye, which has a normal eyelid and crease. It doesn't smudge throughout the day.
My favorite eyeliner this month. It gives a natural look, glides on easily, easy removal with an eye makeup remover, but it does smudge easily, so I usually set it with a brown eyeshadow powder.
A new discovery from KAO is a brand called Liese. This is their Iron Make Collection Rich Straight spray. This is a heat protecting spray from when you're using a blow dryer or a straightening iron. It doesn't stop there! It also helps gives a straight and sleek appearance to my hair. It has another version from the iron make collection called the Rich Curl, CMIIW.
This product helps in diminishing the appearance of acne scars on my cheeks after a good use of 2 weeks. I like the packaging since it's so hygienic.
The texture is creamy, not oily, and sinks into the skin quite fast. It doesn't break me out, despite the creamy texture.
Current serum that I love. Since I've weaned off Retin-A for a while, I use this to replace it. I got a sample size to try . So far, I've seen my skin getting brighter. This packaging comes with a pump. Love it!

The texture is watery, sinks into the skin rapidly, and doesn't break me out.
My favorite scent this month is from Etude House Espoir Violet. It has a floral scent that is crisp and fresh!
