Phanie's Prized Products : November 2011 edition

The rainy season is finally here, at a very late October/early November around my area. I don't particularly love rainy season, but I do love it when the weather is a bit cloudy with a hint of rain. Corny, I know, but it's true. ^^ Now, onto the my November favorites.

Etude House Nymph Aura Loose Powder in
No. 1 Soft Transparent Sparkle

I was looking for a setting powder that doesn't exaggerate dry areas on my face and gives a subtle glow. I'm getting tired of my Lunasol loose powder that looks kinda matte and non-glowy. I like this loose powder because it's translucent and gives a healthy, glowing look with minimal shimmers (NOT glitters).

The Skin Food Royal Honey Density Concealer Kit

This is currently my favorite concealer, replacing the previous concealer from Revlon. This creamy concealer has already been reviewed HERE.

Borjois Chocolate Bronzing Powder

Lately, this has been the bronzer that I use to have a bit of color on my cheeks. I like that this is not too dark with a little hint of shimmer.

Lip Ice Sheer in Natural

I just tried out this lip balm and have been loving it so far. I wonder why I've never tried this before. It's moisturizing and gives a healthy, natural pink on the lips.

Garnier Light BB

My brother got me this from Singapore a few months ago and I've only been using it lately. It conceals my under eye circles and gives brighter looking eyes. I like applying this in the  morning to avoid looking sleepy and tired. Application is also easy with just rolling the tip under the eyes.

The Skin Food Royal Honey Glow Foundation

I like the lightweight feeling and medium coverage that this foundation has. I've already done a review on it, check it out HERE.

L'oreal Hydrafresh Eye Aqua Jelly

I just realized that there is only one skin care item this month. I like this eye gel because of its cooling sensation, depuffing features and hydrating properties.

That is all of my November 2011 Favorites. What's yours?

Haul : Periplus

FTC: I bought these items with my own money. I'm not paid in any way to make this post. I'm not affiliated with this company as well.

A few days ago, I went to Kelapa Gading Mall with Mr. G. We had the usual lunch and then went to Duta Suara. I wanted to get the latest Taylor Swift CD. She used to be my guilty pleasure until I realized that she really is talented and her songs are easy listening.

Afterwards, we went to Periplus for book shopping. It's been a while since I went there, so I'm surprised to see that they're having a book sale on certain books. I got my usual magazine (Prevention) and a two of their discounted items.

One of the first things that I found underneath the pile of discounted items is this 'DC Super Heroes and Villains Card'. I'm not the biggest fan of DC comic books, but I like some of the super heroes and villains from DC, compared to Marvel. This item retails at Rp 94,000 (USD 10) from the original price USD 13.00.

I also noticed this language tutorial flash cards in Japanese. At first, I didn't want to purchase it, but looking at the before and after price, I immediately grabbed it. It was sold at Rp 274,000 and is now being reduced to just Rp 99,000!! I showed the price to Mr. G and he also agreed to buy the cards.

It's targeted for people that wants to enhance their Kanji and can already read Kana.
At the cashier, I'm super excited to see the newest Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Call me childish, but I love reading this book. It makes me feel like a little girl again, reading easy-to-read books. Sometimes, I just want to read a book without having to think what the next chapter is going to be like, lol.
The cover felt so Chrismast-y

So, if you live near Kelapa Gading or looking for a book sale, come to Periplus Mall Kelapa Gading. I don't know when the sale will be finished, but I'll try to keep you updated with the date. See you in the next post, book lovers!

New Sunscreen from L'oreal

Yesterday, I received a package from the same PR company that sent me the Garnier mask. This time, it's a sunscreen from L'oreal. I've used their sunscreen and have a review of it HERE. As you can tell, I love this drugstore sunscreen, especially the one with the purple tint.
My first sunscreen from L'oreal. It's great to reduce dullness and brightening the face
This is the newest sunscreen product from L'oreal specially designed for oily skin. Or so the claim says. It comes in a white and blue striped beach bag, which is very cute. Here are the pictures of the bag and the product, rather than me trying to describe how it looks like.

Quite a large bag, which I always like ^^

The inside of the bag filled with a leaflet, a letter and a sunscreen
Just click the picture to enlarge the leaflet

Just click the picture to enlarge it. I've already tried the sunscreen for 'Even Complexion' and Anti-Dullness'

A leaflet and the new sunscreen
I can't wait to try this out since it promises a mat (isn't it supposed to be matte?) finish.
My skin has been a bit oily lately.
I like the packaging! It's slim and won't take much space when travelling.

The tip is small, so it won't be messy when applying sunscreen ^^
Initial swatch. Looks kinda matte. Hope it is.
My first impression of this is a lightweight, mattifying sunscreen that is travel friendly and non greasy. I've used it today, so the review will probably be up within the next 5-7 days. I will be doing a separate review on this sunscreen, so just watch out for that post. Thank you for the lovely beach bag and product!

Review : Garnier Lightening Peel-Off Mask

FTC: This peel-off mask was sent to me, but I'm not paid in any way to say nice things about it. I'm not affiliated with this company as well.
Continuing the post about the previous Garnier package, I had used the peel-off mask before, but never got around to review it. So, in this post, I'm just going to give a brief overview of the mask.

Garnier Lightening Peel-Off Mask

This peel-off mask is a real "anti dull skin" solution to gently remove impurities and dead skin cells that darken complexion. It is instantly reveals a brighter complexion. You recover a naturally healthy-looking glow and skin texture is refined.

How I Use It
On a clean face, I apply this mask evenly all over my face using my fingers. I suggest using a headband or that sorta thing so it doesn't stick to your hair because it's a pain to remove once it dries.
Sorry for the extra weirdness on my face
I then leave it for 15 minutes, peel off and rinse the excess mask off.

What I Like About It
  • It's available at most drugstores and supermarkets at Jakarta
  • The price is considered dirt cheap, starting at Rp 10,000 (prices may vary)
  • You get two uses in a pack
  • Whenever I look a bit dull (kusam), this mask helps brighten my skin tone immediately
  • It didn't cause any bad skin reaction (acne or redness)
  • It leaves my skin soft and smooth afterwards
  • It doesn't dry out my skin
What I Hate About It
  • It's a bit of a hassle to apply, probably because of the sticky nature of the mask
  • Not a big fan of the denatured alcohol, but I think once in a while is acceptable
  • It has a strong scent of alcohol and lemons, whuch kinda fades away after a few minutes of application
I guess the picture explains more than words ^^
I like the instant lightening effect of this peel off mask. Plus, peeling it off gave a rewarding feeling, knowing all that hardwork of applying the mask will finally pay off. My complexion looks brighter after peeling the mask off. I would use this mask again if I have a special event coming up and I want to have a brighter face in an instant.

I would recommend this to :
  • Someone with dull skin
  • Someone who needs a quick fix for a brighter complexion
  • Someone who isn't sensitive towards scents

Review : Skin Food Good Afternoon Apple Cinnamon Tea BB Cream SPF 36/PA ++

Hi there, today, I have for you a new BB cream from Skin Food from the line Good Afternoon Series. It has five variants that are specially formulated for different skin types, ranging from dry, dull to oily. I have been trying out the Apple Cinnamon one and here's my thought of it.

Skin Food Good Afternoon Apple Cinnamon Tea BB Cream SPF 36/PA ++

A long-lasting BB cream that helps maintain bright morning skin throughout the day without darkening or smudging.

A brightening BB cream that re-illuminates skin with apple extract and detoxifies impurities with cinnamon, promoting a more even and brighter skin tone.

How I Use It
I squeeze a fingertip length on the back of my hand and dotting it on my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Afterwards, I just pat it gently to blend with my fingers.

What I Like About It
  • The price is quite cheap compared to most BB creams like SKIN79, Etude House, Holika Holika, etc, starting at Rp 90,000
  •  The size of the tube is very travel friendly since it can fit into most makeup bags
  • It has a scent of apple and tea, but soon fades away a few minutes after blending
  • It instantly brightens my complexion and evens out my skin tone, i.e. reducing the redness on my cheeks, nose and mouth
  • Blends easily, giving smooth finish
  • It has sheer to medium coverage, able to cover mild to moderate acne scar (not pitted ones)
  • It lasts around 4 hours on my face, if I don't sweat
  • So far, it hasn't given my skin any bad reactions
  • This BB cream feels lightweight and not sticky or greasy
What I Hate About It
  • I can only still find it at online shops
  • It doesn't control excess oil wonderfully

Excuse the messy hair, I just woke up ^^;;
My right cheek that has red acne scars

My left cheek that has a single sun spot and a few mild acne scars

My nose and cheeks that has enormous pores
Overall, I love the texture and finish of this BB cream. However, since it IS a BB cream, it doesn't have super long lasting staying power. The color matches my skin tone better compared to SIN79's.

I would recommend this to :

  • Someone who has dull skin with the shade light to light medium
  • Someone with normal to dry skin type
  • Someone who won't mind the lack of coverage for deep and severe acne scars

Review and Swatch : Skin Food Royal Honey Glow Foundation SPF 30/PA ++

Lately, I have been into foundations, especially liquid ones. Probably because I've always been a tinted moisturizer user, so when getting the coverage from foundations, I'm thrilled.

Skin Food Royal Honey Glow Foundation SPF 30/PA ++

A foundation that applies like a second skin while providing expert coverage for skin flaws. Adds a lovely honey glow for a natural-looking smooth complexion.

It's all in Korean. Again..

How I Use It
I squeeze a pump on the back of my hand. With my fingers, I dot it on my forehead, cheeks, chin and nose. Using either my fingers, makeup sponge or a brush, I evenly spread it all over the face. My preferable method is using fingers since the product gets blended easily.

What I Like About It
  • I immediately like the pump packaging. It makes my life a lot easier *drama queen*
  • The texture is more to the creamier side, which is all the more suitable for normal to dry skin type
  • One of the easiest I've ever applied. Blending doesn't take much work or speed
  • Currently, the shade matches my skintone perfectly
  • It doesn't oxidize throughout the day. It stayed the same on my face even after 6 hours
  • It has medium coverage (able to make 'em acne scars 'disappear' momentarily and evens out my skin tone, hence decreases appearance of redness)
  • The foundation lasted around 6 hours on my face, if I don't sweat or rub my face
  • It feels lightweight and looks natural (not cakey or made up)
What I Hate About It
  • The price is quite high compared to drugstore foundations in Jakarta, starting at Rp 170.000,-
  • There are only two shades available; Light Beige (1) and Natural Beige (2)
Thank you for the pump~ ^.^
My shade is Light Beige
It doesn't have too much of a yellow undertone
Excuse the sleepy face, I just woke up ^^;;
Notice the sun spot on my left-hand cheek (your right)? It's concealed! ^.^
However, you can still see my pores and hideous acne scars on my nose
Overall, this is a lightweight foundation that has medium coverage and is targeted towards normal to dry skin type. The sunscreen in it is a love hate relationship because I love the extra protection from the sun, but hate it if I want to wear it at night, especially in flash photography.

I would recommend this to :
  • Someone who has normal to dry skin
  • Someone who has a light to light medium skin tone
  • Someone who has uneven skin tone and redness
So, have you tried this foundation? ^^

Review: Skin Food Royal Honey Density Concealer Kit

Earlier this year, I found my nearly HG concealer from Revlon (Blemish Concealer). However, I was disappointed to find out that Revlon has discontinued that concealer for reasons unknown. So, there I was left with all the blemishes appearing on my face, with me not able to conceal them. I tried other concealers from Revlon (Age Defying), but it was only good for my under eye area because of the light reflective properties.

About a month ago, I saw Skin Food's newest concealer from the Royal Honey line and decided to give it a try. So, after one week of continuous use, here's my verdict.

Skin Food Royal Honey Density Concealer Kit

A dual-shade concealer that applies like a second skin to provide maximum coverage for skin flaws.

I can't read Korean, so....

How I Use It
With my clean fingers, I dab some of the concealer onto the problem areas and blending them with a fluffy eye blending brush.

What I Like About It
  • The price is quite affordable, retailing at Rp 109,000 at Chic Princessa
  • The size of the product is compact, making it travel-friendly
  • What makes it even more travel-friendly is the fact that it has a small brush and a mirror! The brush isn't low quality, either!
  • It comes with two shades (light beige and natural beige, I presume), which is perfect for someone who is in between those two shades. I like to mix the two to get the right shade
  • It has a creamy consistency, making blending easy
  • The finish is a semi matte look
  • It doesn't exaggerate my dry patches at the edges of my nose and mouth
  • It has medium coverage and is able to conceal some of my sun spots
What I Hate About It
  • It creases if used for under the eye area
  • I'm not sure whether this is already available at the counters here in Jakarta

The brush is of good quality, but I prefer blending brush
The brush from Masami Shouko I use to blend the concealer

More close up pic on the brush
According to my standards, this is an HG concealer for me so far. It blends easily, concealing all those sun spots and acne (given that you use the fluffy blending brush) and lasts a good 5 hours on my face (if set with powder).

I would recommend this to:
  • Someone who is looking for a creamy concealer that blends easily
  • Someone who has mild to moderate acne or acne scars

Mid November Collective Haul

I don't know if you like haul posts, but I do. It's fun to take pictures of the items and watermark them, but that's just me. Probably will fit working behind a desk since I'm THAT boring. ^^;;

Let's just start. Please keep in mind that this is a collective haul, so they're not bought on the same day. I know I said that I will do a monthly collective haul, but I just can't help myself. Forgive me?

About two weeks ago, I ordered from Martha Tilaar Online Shop because I'm too lazy to go to the counter. Plus, they're having a free Caring Colors loose powder if I buy their new BB Cream. Since there is quite a number of items in this post, I thought I'll try to fit it into a .gif, so you won't have to scroll down for pictures.

A few days ago, Mr. G took me to the mall to watch Tin Tin in 3D. It was unexpectedly amazing! I like the fast paced plot and the appropriate-timing jokes. Anyway, after the movie, we went to Duck King to eat and, as always, I went to Watsons. Here is the damage.

I also purchased a few items from Chic Princessa and Cupcalicious because I feel I needed retail therapy last week.
