Review: Garnier Overnight Whitening Peeling Cream

Garnier has been found in drugstores all over Indonesia ever since a few years ago. It has quite a good reputation, but only limited products are available here. Those products are whitening/lightening products and acne-combating products.

I first tried Garnier's 24 hours whitening cream that comes in two squeeze tubes, yellow (day time use) and blue (night time use). I was excited when I saw this earlier in 2010 because it promises overnight whitening, which I sometimes need after a day out in the sun. I need to look brighter the next morning to look fresh. Recently, I've started using this again because I was trying to wean off Retin-A for a month, but I wanted to stay light. I remembered that I never post a review on this product, so here it is.

Garnier Overnight Whitening Peeling Cream
How I Use It
With clean fingers, I apply evenly all over my face before bedtime.

What I Like About It
  • It retails at IDR 60,000 (est). *UPDATE : Now available in small tube size, at a cheaper price!*
  • It's available in most supermarket and drugstores in Jakarta
  • It feels really light on my face when applied
  • It doesn't take time to sink in and be absorbed
  • It didn't break me out
  • It really does whiten my face to a shade lighter!!
What I Hate About It
  • It's packaged in a jar container that makes it really unhygienic to dip my fingers back and forth when needing to apply the cream
  • It has a strong scent of lemons that might be troublesome for people with sensitive noses
It is a nice shortcut to having a lighter skin tone, if you are not sensitive to scents. This product reeks of lemon, in a STRONG way. Some literature say that lemon oil is bad for the skin, others say otherwise. So, while it's still debated on the benefits, I would use this if i wanted to have my face look lighter at the end of the week for a big event or something.

  1. hi! i also use this product, but i bought the tube one. (i think more hygienic compare to the jar, plus the price is cheaper).

i don't notice brighter skin yet, but my skin feels much smoother! love it!

  2. Hi Honey! I also went out and got the tube version and gave this one to my bf since he has pretty much normal skin. He used it all up about a week ago. I love the tube version, as well!!

Thanks for stopping by my blog!

  3. Hi..
Can i know whether can we use 24h Deep Moisturizer every morning and Garnier Overnight Whitening Peeling Cream every night? is this possible to use it together?

  4. Hi Shirley! I haven't tried the 24 hours Deep Moisturizer, but I reckon it can be combined if u use it in the morning and the Garnier overnight peeling at night. Just as long as you don't layer tons of stuff on your face! Hope this helps!

  5. Hi
I bought the one in a tube month ago, well i think it doesnt have ANY effect to the dark spot on my face (i do outdoor sport but i always use spf 50 sunblock)
I just love the lemon scent on it, it isnt too strong for me

  6. Starlitediva, did you reapply the sunscreen every two hours? I also noticed that it didn't help dimish specific sun spots, but the overall skin tone.. ^^

  7. I've tried the day cream (the light complete one). but the next day, small acne appear in my face T.T
i think I don't want to repurchase it

  8. Reli, that's really unfortunate :( Maybe you can find other creams that has the same benefits without causing any skin reactions.. ^^

  9. I bought the 3 shades lighter in 14 days version, after using it for about 6 weeks, I can confidently say it's nothing but a marketing scam. I would say since I switched to Garnier I'm one to two shades darker, and the cream is greasys and heavy so it gives you spots. Big disappointment, price says it all. I will write a letter of complaint to Garnier

    1. I'm sorry to hear that it didn't work out for you. I hope your skintone woukd return to they way it was after you've stopped using the cream. Don't forget to apply sunscreen to prevent more skin darkening. ∩__∩
