Cupcalicious

[HAUL+RECOMMENDED] Cupcalicious

Monday, May 31, 2010

I found another online shop which has a cute and adorable name. It's Cupcalicious. Told you it was cute! I was browsing at this discussion group where people list the online shops that are recommended and browsed all the way there. There are ready stocks and pre orders for various Korean brands such as banilla co, baviphat, BRTC, etc.

I thought I'd tried this shop because some of the products are rarely seen in most online shops, especially Tony Moly products. Since this shop is new, I tried buying the face mask to see what kind of services they offer. Turns out that they're quite professional at dealing with the customer's transaction records. They have a cart and checkout system, so they notify you via email to confirm the things you have purchased. You can pay by wire transfer through various banks such as Mandiri, BCA, Permata, Paypal, etc. So, I checked out the products I wanted and waited for them to arrive.

I ordered two VOV face masks, one Baviphat magic lip tint, and dr.Jart's Silver & Black label. I also got samples of sunscreens from brands I've never heard before. All of my purchase was packed safely in a white box and the insides were also packed with bubble wraps. It took a day for my order to arrive and that is fast delivery service.

So, let's start picking on the items one by one. First item are the VOV masks Sake Noki face mask and Green Tea Collagen wash off mask. Both have adorable packaging that is in a shape of a corked bottle. How cute is that! I will try these and do a separate review, if they are really worth it.

The second item is the Baviphat Peach Magic Lip Tint which is a lip balm that magically transform your lips to a natural pinkish red colour. The lip balm container has a peach shape and a twist off cap, so you have to use your brush or fingers to apply them. I tried it on my lips and it did what it claimed to do, but it was too sticky for my preference. No worries though, I still like the container!

The third and last item I got from Cupcalicious was Dr.Jart+'s Silver and Black label BB cream. Yes, I know I already found my HG BB cream, but it doesn't hurt to find cheaper alternatives for it. I also got another free tube of the Golden Skin79 BB Cream, but it is for people with dry skin, so I won't use it and is thinking of giving it away. Those interested in this, please just leave a comment and I'll message you asking for your address.

That is it for the Cupcalicious haul and I will certainly recommend this online shop to all of you because it is a reliable, professional and trusted shop. Don't forget to leave comments if you want the Skin79 Gold Collection!

Bistro Baron

[REVIEWS] Bistro Baron

Monday, May 31, 2010

I've always fancied the idea of a fine dining when I was a little girl. It was elegant, classy and the food must be scrumptious. However, as I grew older, fine dining seemed to be waaaaay out of my league financially. Even though it's a three course meal, I find the food portion to be quite small for my liking. It doesn't mean that I won't ever eat fine dining, it's just that maybe someday in the future when I have enough money to afford one of those meals. So, for now I have to settle for a usual meal.
I have read about Bistro Baron in one of the magazines the other day and was tempted to try it out. However, due to unorganized schedules and my sometimes absent-mindedness, I kept on saying that I'll go there tomorrow, until yesterday.
I went there with Gen and two of my best friends for dinner on a Saturday night. It's only been two weeks and already we're sharing stories and catching up on each other's lives. Anyhoo, I don't know exactly what the definition of a bistro is and I've never been to one before, but it's quite nice with all the elegant furniture designs and a cozy ambience. We get to sit next to the bar and got a chance to listen to the hustle bustle of the bartender blending the drinks. The waiters and waitresses are very courteous and kind, assisting and giving suggestions on choosing our meals. Since Gen and I were late, my friends put in their orders first and got Poulet Roti and Goujonettes. As for drinks, both of them chose Citron Presse, or as the English say “Freshly squeezed Lemon Juice”.
Gen and I finally got there 15 minutes after they put their orders in and were now enjoying the bread and butter served at the beginning of the meal. We chatted for a few minutes before I got the menu and I ordered Gratin de Pates and Gen selected Spaghetti Aglio Olio. Not long after I ordered, my friends’ meals came and I got to taste test a bite (actually, it’s more than a bite =p). Neng ordered the Poulet Roti which is Roast Chicken with the side of fries and tossed salad (I think it was watercress). The chicken was perfectly cooked on the outside and inside, but the taste itself was really bland. That’s when I noticed a sauce to accompany the chicken! I then dipped the chicken into the sauce, but it doesn’t really improve much on the taste. The sauce itself is salty and slightly which doesn’t have a strong point when added to the chicken. It’s really not a remarkable dish and I wouldn’t recommend it since there’s nothing special taste wise. This dish retails at Rp 90750,- with tax and service charge.
Wiena ordered the Goujonettes which translates to Fish and Chips. After witnessing the dish, it’s more like Fish Sticks (to the South Park fans, it’s not fish d***s). There were five sticks of minced fish meat accompanied with homemade tartar sauce and fries at the side. The fish tasted fresh, especially with a squirt of lemon juice on top. However, it tasted a bit too greasy and for a moment while I was chewing them, it tasted like it has been kept in the freezer for too long. I think it would be better if they serve a fish fillet, rather than mincing the fish fillet and packing them into sticks like that. Certainly, with the fish fillet, the presentation would be more attractive and charming. The taste would also improve by breading the fish fillet because then all of the original flavor of the fish is maintained inside that thin layer. Well, that’s just what I think anyway. Again, it was an okay dish, retailing at Rp 72600,- with tax and service charge.
Gen ordered the Spaghetti Aglio Olio, which you probably already knew what it is. In case you didn’t know, it is a pasta (spaghetti) dish that was sautéed together with cherry tomatoes, shrimps, bacon, etc in a skillet then served. The spaghetti was cooked to perfection, reaching that al-dente stage, soft yet still has that little crunchy property. The downfall to this dish was the level of oil that it’s cooked in. It was too much oil sinking at the bottom of the plate, around 3 tablespoonful. Apart from that, it was a great pasta dish, retailing at Rp 78650,- with tax and service charge.
Lastly, me, myself and I ordered Gratin de Pates a.k.a Mac and Cheese. Why you ask? Since I don’t know what else to order because my friends had already ordered the ones I want. Anyway, I then sort of blame myself for not having ordered the duck confit. The mac and cheese tasted like… You guessed it! Mac and Cheese. There’s really nothing to brag about in terms of the taste. Sure, there was pieces of bacon inside, but I only find that on the second top layer and there were nothing else on the bottom of the dish besides… You guessed it! Mac and Cheese. As you dig deeper and reached to the bottom of the dish, the taste of the cheese is there, but the salty taste from salt (not cheese, they’re different!) is absent. I could only taste the bland macaroni and cheese. The macaroni at the very bottom gets really soft, as in porridge soft and I stopped eating halfway through. Gen finished my other half and I continue to pick on the roast chicken that Neng was having. The one thing I will always remember about the Gratin de Pates is how boring it feels when I’m eating it. Still, I have to pay Rp 90750,- with tax and service charge.
I just remembered I haven’t mentioned beverages, have I? To just sum up Neng and Wiena ordered Citron Presse (that’s fresh lemon to all u non-French-speaking-people), Gen got Ginger Ale and I chose Iced Chocolate. The fresh lemon retails at Rp 30250,- , Ginger ale cost Rp 30250,- and Iced Chocolate damaged me at Rp 48400,-. I don’t like the Iced Chocolate at all because the after taste is bitter at the very end when you’re swallowing your drink. I didn’t get a chance to read what is in the mixture, but I should’ve read them thoroughly before ordering. It looked really gorgeous and tempting though, especially with those chocolate shavings on top of the whipped cream! Looks might sometimes be deceiving me thinks.
Before the meal came, we got pieces of bread, I think they’re baguettes (French ones), cut into slices, served with unsalted butter. I can’t quite tell whether it’s homemade or store-bought butter, but I liked the butter. Sounds cheesy, huh? Another thing that I liked is the plates are all warmed up before they plate up the food. Real classy. We didn’t get to try the desserts because we were very full already from the main course.
Overall, I think that the food here is okay (well, the ones that I tried above), but I haven’t tried the appetizers yet, so I have to hold back my opinion on the food. The ambience and interior design is classy, but casual. They have magazines “pierced” and hung from a round hook beside the bar. It looks really neat and sophisticated for a magazine organizer, creative too! They also have an outdoor section so you can probably have candle light dinner with your loved ones. You can probably smoke outside, but I’m not sure about that.
So, Bistro Baron anyone? Ooh! If anyone have tried their desserts or appetizers, please let me know which ones are good. Happy eating!

A Really Mini Review on Prince of Persia : Sands of Time

Wednesday, May 26, 2010

Cover of game and movie of Prince of Persia

My first adventure DOS game

I just got home from watching Prince of Persia: Sands of Time starring Jake Gylenhall and Sir Ben Kingsley. I then decided to write a brief review of what I think about the movie because it wasn't as bad as I expected it to be. In short, the concept of the story was interesting how it turns back time and all, the fight scenes were choreographed beautifully, the pace of the story is quick.

Remember this? 90's babies would have!

The downside to it was how it fails to brew the excitement or even stir up a teensie bit of enthusiasm while watching it. I wasn't at all thrilled during those action scenes. You know, the feeling you get when you don't want a specific character to die, it lack that "oomph" (sort of a weird explanation this "oomph" thing). I also don't understand how the choose the actor and how Gylenhall got the part. His face doesn't quite make it as a Persian, but again I'm not a casting director *shrugs*. Since this is called "Prince of PERSIA", I thought, at the very least, the actors would have developed a Persian/Arab accent. Sadly, they were all chatting in English accent, even the thieves, geez *rolls eyes*.

I used to fall so many times in this game

Overall, it was an okay movie and I would rate it at around 6/10 because of its entertaining factor.

Drop Dead

Monday Issue #1

Monday, May 24, 2010

Well, we meet again although I'm not sure who I'm talking to since I don't have any blog followers. LOL, but nonetheless that is not the point of me writing blogs, it's just to keep me occupied with writing and not losing that touch. Besides, I feel sort of relieved when I write. I guess it's just one of the things that kept me sane all these years.

On to the point, I am thinking of turning this into a habit of mine because there's nothing to lose anyway. So, I was certain that I will post minimal every Monday of the week about anything. Be it reviews, ramblings, how my day went, but certainly not FOTD or even LOTD. Well, I probably will do them in the future, but not now.

So, let's start with the first ever Monday Issue from your truly (phanie14). I was supposed to go to Central Park today, but I totally forgot until my friend tweeted asking me what time I shall arrive there. I immediately texted my driver and luckily enough he was able to drive me there. I reached there at 5 pm (more or less) and we had an early dinner at Sushi Tei. The others have arrived and I was the last one to get there. Nevertheless, we had fun catching up after months of not seeing each other. It was a lot of fun seeing them again and surely will look forward to another meeting with them. Miss you guuuyss!!

Another high point of my day that I didn't expect was the arrival of my Drop Dead T Shirt that I had previously ordered months ago , that I had completely forgotten about it. I ordered four pieces for me and Gen in purple and white color.

Drop Dead Alligator

Imprinted on the backside

Drop Dead Organs

Imprinted on the back lower right corner

It came in plastics, these are Gen's

The logo

On that note, that is how my Monday went. I was supposed to post this last night, but my internet choked and died in a ditch, so I am posting it now on a Tuesday. Thanks a lot to my internet provider FASTNET who has provided me with the unlimited and lightning fast speed, who just so happen to regurgitate shit out of their noses last night. Nonetheless, I bid you Adieu.

An Ice Cream Maker Story

Saturday, May 22, 2010

I went to Artha Gading mall yesterday, specifically ACE Hardware, because Gen wanted to buy tools to keep the PC clean. We need brushes, gloves, screwdriver and a toolbox, but there was no glove that matched our liking. I picked up a few Winni the Pooh Deco Stickers that can go on to various platforms (tiles, glass, wood, anything as long as they're clean). I thought that this would be a good addition to my bathroom tiles.

Anyway, we sort of browsed through the whole store and got a few things computer related. As we are about to go to the cashier for checkouts, my eyes caught something majestic and magnificent that I nearly fainted at the sight of it. If you have read my tweet, you guessed, it was an ice cream maker! It was Kris brand (ACE's home brand, I think) and is retailed at only Rp 350000,-. I immediately begged Gen to let me have it because it has been a loooooooooong time since I wanted one of those. At my surprise, he said yes without a fight. Apparently, he wanted the ice cream as well, at least that's what I think.

This was the high point of my day, besides spending time with my boyfriend. I can't stop thinking of what ice cream flavour I'm going to make since this is going to be a fun fun machine!

Tea Tree Oil & Makeup Brushes

Monday, May 17, 2010

The other day I was cleaning my vanity corner (gosh, that sounds so posh!), I noticed something I should have done a week ago. I FORGOT to deep clean my brushes!! So, I took them immediately to the bathroom and noticed that I ran out of baby shampoo. Arrgghh, this just keeps getting worse, me thinks. Then, I saw a bottle of The Body Shop's Tea Tree Facial Wash and thought that it might be a good idea to wash my brushes with that. I mean, why not? Clearly, it's an antiseptic and it doesn't dry out my skin when I use it, I then figured to go with it.

The experimental TTO

The result was beeee~~autiful that I nearly shed a tear in the end. My brushes was completely clean, they smell great and not to mention nearly germ free because of the antiseptic properties of the tea tree oil. However, the greatness doesn't stop there. When the brushes is totally dry (air dry people not blow dry!), it goes back to their original puffiness and it is uber soft to the touch.

My puffy e.l.f kabuki brush

My also puffy Masami Shouko kabuki

I like my new brush cleaner (read: Tea Tree Oil) and feel that there is no need for me to purchase a separate, specialized brush cleaner. I usually deep cleanse my brushes once a week and spot cleansing after each usage. I normally use a makeup remover cloth by Purederm to wipe off excess oil and dirt after using each of my brushes. I did this not because I'm suffering from OCD, but because I'm suffering from acne =p
This really helps take off the dirt

Artha Gading Mall

A Day At The Dentist

Sunday, May 16, 2010

I went to get my tooth fixed today because last night the patch sorta cracked and fell off. At first, I was afraid since my regular dentist is closed on the weekends and my tooth is starting to piss me off. However, I remembered a dentist available in Artha Gading Mall and decided to try it out today.

It was located in front of the Starbucks Coffee in Artha Gading Mall and it was called Dental Care ArthaGading (I'm not sure, I'm just looking at my credit card receipt). The receptionist is really friendly and gave me my member card. There was no queue at all and I was the next patient to go inside, once the patient inside is already finished with their treatments. I sat at the couch in the waiting room, flipping through magazines and watching FOX Crime to pass the time.

I waited for around 10 minutes before I was told to enter the examination room. The dentist was a friendly and kind person, asking me about the history and so on. After the brief history of how I cracked my tooth (I brushed it off and found a hard sediment on the sink), he told me to get comfortable with the dentist chair. He told me that I needed to get a new patch for my tooth so that it'll be even again. I agreed and he got started on patching my tooth. It was a painless and brief procedure, all in under 20 minutes. He is a good dentist, with all the criteria of steady hands, full concentration and everything else. He finished up and told me to go to the cashier to pay.

It cost me Rp245000,- for a tooth. Well, it's cheaper than my regular dentist, I guess. I think I'll be going to this dentist more often now that I know the quality of the dental care.

Mineral Makeup

Me and Mineral Makeup

Thursday, May 13, 2010

You must have already known about this brand from a loooong time ago, but I don't. Mineral makeup is a new thing for me and I found out about because I grew tired of using my ZA tinted moisturizer. That, and it started to break me out, resulting in small zits that looks enraged with their whitish ooze. That's when I started to look for other alternatives and stumbled on to mineral makeup. It's supposed to be good for people with oily or acne prone skin type because they contain natural ingredients which might include mica, titanium oxide and zinc oxide. They are blend naturally into fine lines and wrinkles, giving a flawless, natural look. Oh, and they're supposed to have a good oil control and mattifies the skin.

Well, they sure as well sold me on the first sentence, so I decided to went in search for the mineral makeup. My first mineral makeup is from The Body Shop Nature's Mineral Foundation with SPF 25. It was quite an expensive powder foundation, costing me Rp 229000,- for 5g of it. This is a non-comedogenic product and blends easily when applied to my face. I got one in shade number 2 along with the brush which I paid for separately at Rp 189000,-. It is really expensive for a kabuki brush, but not to fret I found a dupe for TBS kabuki brush from Masami Shouko. I'll do a separate review on the brushes.

Another mineral makeup product that I really love is Everyday Minerals. The first product I tried is their concealer and never look back ever since. I have done a review on their concealers here. I have also tried their finishing powder in kaolin bronze or something like that and it really does what it claims to do, which is controlling the oil on my face. It gives me 4 hours untill I have to blot again. That is a really long time for oil control on my face.

What I really like about mineral makeup is that it is able to give me a flawless yet natural look. Natural here means that it's not cakey at all so I look as if I'm not wearing any makeup on my face. Another thing I like about this is that it doesn't smudge as much around my nose area where my glasses cushions rest upon. If I'm not wearing minerals, that area would look reddish and the dent where the cushions used to lay would be visible. I have been using this for around 6 months and didn't have any break outs. I only had acne when I'm hormonal and it's that time of the month.

I would recommend oily skin people and acne prone skin people to use mineral makeup, but make sure that you have no allergies towards the common ingredients found in mineral makeup (mica, titanium oxide, zinc oxide). When you're clear with all those ingredients, go ahead and try it. Mineral makeup rules!

Accessories

Accesorizeeee~~

Wednesday, May 12, 2010

Let me tell you first hand that I am someone who is not really into accessories lately. I was liking it a lot back when I was 15 years old where I used necklaces and rings, but now it was like... meh.. Lately, I was drawn back to this old liking of mine and started collecting unique necklaces. I haven't figured out what to use them with, but the sight of them makes me eager to wear them again.

So, I found this online shop called Brisingame Accesoire who sells accessories ranging from necklaces, bracelets, rings, brooch and lotsa other things. The shop owner really nice and patient in dealing with her customers' orders. The first thing I bought at her shop was a makeup remover from Japan which proved to be quite the product that I've been looking for. She was an honest girl who speaks her opinion freely as to not try to oversell the product. In short, she tells the product as it is.

The shop's logo and 'Trusted Seller' logo on the upper right corner

I looked at her accessories album and found some to be in my liking. The first necklace I bought was a deer necklace which I thought to be really unique since I rarely see such an elegant looking necklace.

There's a cute fawn beside the deer

Another one was a combination of roses, butterflies and other round shapes of various colors. I got this one because I thought the butterflies fit perfectly together with the roses and they kinda looked like Anna Sui's design.

Roses, butterflies, what else do you need?!

The last necklace that I got was a row of three cute chubby birds sitting on a branch.

Look at them sitting without a care in the world

All of these necklaces are affordable and ranges between Rp 100000,- to Rp 150000,- , or at least those are the one that I got. Here is the link to her store, click here!! Some of the accessories purchased will be given to charity, read all about it here. All of her necklaces doesn't give me any allergies or strange looking rashes. They were also hand made. Overall, I am really pleased shopping here a couple of times and will be looking forward for her newest collections.

One of my faves!

Himalaya Herbals

[POTW] Himalaya Herbals Gentle Exfoliating Apricot Scrub

Saturday, May 08, 2010

I'm sure almost everyone has already facials once in their lifetime and to those having loads and loads of blackheads will know that facial is a painful experience. My first facial goes way back in 2005 and it was a painful experience, on the count of me having tons of blackheads on my face. Before trying this, I used the Clinique 7 Day Scrub twice a day, but the blackheads kept on staying there, making themselves comfortable except when it comes to extractions. Grrrrr, I hate that..!! I browsed through the internet trying to find a good scrub that might help in reducing the amount of blackhead on my face and stumbled on the St Ives Apricot Scrub. I tried to find it here, buuuttt all comes to no avail. So, one day as I was going to Watson's MKG, I found a dupe (sorta) from Himalaya Herbals and tried it out.

Himalaya Herbals is a range of natural, effective and safe products that use rare herbs carefully selected from the foothills of the Himalayas. Combining the best of Ayurveda with years if scientific research, these products effectively restore your skin's natural health and vitality

Wheatgerm oil, rich in natural vitamin E moisturizes the skin and maintains its natural moisture balance. Apple provides nourishment for healthy, glowing skin.

Other ingredients: Aqua, iso paraffin, Stearic acid, Cetyl alcohol, Sorbitan stearate, Sucrose cocoate, Carbomer, Triethanolamine, Phenoxyethanol, Methyl paraben, BHT, Propyl paraben, fragrance.

RAVES
  • It's readily available in most drug stores. I found it in Watson's.
  • It's quite cheap for around Rp 100000,-
  • It doesn't dry out my skin
  • The best part is it reduces the amount of MY blackheads!!! My last facial session isn't as painful as before I started using this product.

RANTS
  • I don't see my face glowing after using this product, but it doesn't bother me that much.
  • I wish I could use this everydaaayy~~
  • I am a little bit scared about the granules as it is naturally derived and might have non-uniformed size, which might irritate my skin. Thankfully so far, it hasn't done that. *pheww!*

Overall, this product really does deserve to be POTW. I am really falling head over heels with this product and is very curious to try out their other products. If I do, I will post one of the good ones here. I hope this helps in clearing out those unwanted blackheads!

BB Cream

[REVIEW] Lioele BB Beyond The Solution

Thursday, May 06, 2010

I just recently found out about this product line and decided to try it out from my favorite seller Chic Princessa. I bought it at www.chicprincessa.com . I ordered other stuff which is the epicare stick (I will review this later on) and also a NYX round lipgloss in Amethyst (which I will review as well). Although I already have my HG BB Cream which is the L'egere White Multi BB Cream, I am still curious to see what other BB Creams have to offer. So, here is the raves and rants about it

RAVES
  • The packaging is cute and very girly
  • It comes in a squeeze tube with a pump
  • Easy to blend
  • Doesn't break me out
  • Lightens my skin
  • Has Titanium Oxide which is the natural SPF (CMIIW)
  • Only need half a pump for my whole face, otherwise it will leave a whitish cast (ghastly white look) on my face
  • Medium coverage
  • Average oil control. Takes me about an hour and a half to blot.

RANTS
  • Quite expensive
  • Only comes in 1 shade
  • Doesn't have that natural look. It looks really makeup-y (not sure if this is a word =p )
  • Feels a little bit too heavy on my skin

I have used this BB cream twice and so far this is the experience I get. I will update this when there is any changes. As with all of my reviews, this is an honest, non paid review and I bought the product myself. Thanks for reading!
