Phanie's Prized Products: September Edition

Friday, October 01, 2010

Hello, loyal readers of this humble blog! It's that time of month again! No, I'm not talking about menstruation cycle and/or my period. Why the heck would I? *rolls eyes* It's time to announce last month's favorites since we are now in October. However, this edition would be different with the previous ones because I have limited my favorites to 10 items maximum. Otherwise, I'll just bore you guys to death with my rants and ramblings *snore*. Anyway, let's begin. Oh, these are in no particular order.

My first monthly favorite is a buffering brush from MakeupShow (I think, that's what it's called). The shape is sort of similar to a small kabuki, but this is more rounded than oval shaped. If I can have only 1 brush for the rest of my life, it would be this one. It can be used to apply foundation (liquid, powder, cream), blush (cream or powder), and all over concealer. It's because of its small size, I feel that foundation application is more precise, especially when it comes to applying foundation in certain parts (cheeks, forehead, chin, etc) only. This can also be used to buff your powder to make it look more natural. I'm not sure what the bristles are made from, but it is soft. You can purchase the brush HERE. It's affordable and the owner is super friendly towards customer, be sure to check it out because she has other brushes as well.

Next up, facial masks!! I love facial masks, especially sheet masks because they're easy to use and is usually loaded with essence. This month, I have been favoring My Beauty Diaries facial masks because they're alcohol free and comes with different varieties for each skin type. I have been using the Japanese Cherry Blossom around 4 times this month weekly. I love how this moisturizes my skin and gives it that radiant, glowing skin. Plus, the scent is heavenly as well!

Living in a hot and humid environment, such as Jakarta, has to be one of the most talked about skin annoyance.  I suggest carrying water (bottled water) in a spray bottle, so that you can spray it whenever you needed an instant pick-me-up refreshing moment. Since I have oily skin, I decided to purchase Avene Thermal Water because it contains silica that will help me mattify my face and cool me down whenever I'm feeling really sweaty and greasy. I can also used this to soothe redness on my face after facial treatments. For those of you who are allergic to silicon derivates, Evian spray water or regular water in a spray bottle might help.

Another thing about living in Jakarta, the sun shines on as if wanting to burn every living thing under it. It is so hot that you can actually get sunburn if you stand for 15 minutes under the sun. Sunscreen is a must in sunny places and my favorite sunscreen this month is the Etude House Aqua Drop Sun Guard SPF 33/Pa++. I like the cooling sensation from the Aloe Vera in this product and it does moisturize my arms and legs (I use Neutrogena's sunscreen on my face).

This month, I'm featuring an oldie but goodie item which is The Body Shop's Moringa Shower Gel. I got this a few months back when TBS is having a huge sale. I love Moringa scent because it reminds me of jasmine flowers, but with a more intense floral fragrance. It lathers up nicely and moisturizes my skin decently.

Ever since I have Shiro, I'm always playing with her on evenings where mosquitoes roam freely around my house. This is what I really like to use on my arms and legs, the Johnson's Clear Lotion Anti-Mosquito. It doesn't have a strong scent and is not sticky at all. The best part is it doesn't contain DEET, which is a chemical substance that might actually dry out your skin. Bye-bye mosquitoes!

Right now, I am in love with O.P.I Who Needs A Prince? Not only is the name very unique, but the color is also gorgeous. It is a light pink with hints of purple shimmers that is great when I want a not-too-dramatic nails. I don't have the swatch currently because I wiped it off yesterday, due to some accident.

My love for gloss has been re-ignited by Revlon Colorstay Super Lustrous Lipgloss in 040 Nude Lustre. I love how this evens out my lip color and gave a not-so-very glossy finish. I love the packaging because I think it's elegant yet simplistic. It kinda reminds me of Dior Addict, but with a more toned down details.  I'll have swatches on the last pictures, if you wanna scroll down now, go ahead.

I'm usually not into bright red lipsticks, but I guess I have changed throughout the years. Getting older, as one might say. I have been using M.A.C Viva Glam Cyndi Luster all throughout this month. I usually just pat it on my lips, instead of swiping it from side to side. This helps in 'staining' your lips, rather than give it a bold color. The finish is lustre, so it doesn't dry out my lips like matte finishes do.  This isn't actually a bright red, it more like a corally kind of red, very wearable for school, university or even work. It also has Cyndi Lauper's signature with a peace sign on it! Ultra Cool! Look for swatches below.

The last item in my monthly favorite is a cream blush from Etude House. It's called Angel Kiss Lip & Cheek in Lovely Angel. The color is a rosy pink with a satin finish. It doesn't contain any shimmers, so once applied I look like I have a natural flush of color on my cheeks. I don't quite like this on my lips as it is very drying. I applied this with my buffer brush (the first item on this post) and simply blend away. However, the color doesn't last all day (maximum 4 hours on my cheeks), so you'll need to reapply every few hours. Aside from that, it's a great product. Swatches can be found down below.

The left is the cream blush, the center is Viva Glam Cyndi and the right is Revlon's Nude Lustre Lipgloss.

That is it for my prized products (sounds very cheesy, doesn't it?) September edition. I noticed that there are more makeup products than the months before. I think it's because my skin has been very good to me lately and I don't actually need more products in the skincare department. Hope you enjoyed this post and I'll see you in next month prized products.
