Brief Absence

I haven't blogged for nearly a week or even more because I have to go to my grandfather's funeral at Gorontalo. He passed away peacefully and I can say that he's in a better place now. At least, that's what I believe in, not heaven nor hell, but a place where everything lay still and white and peaceful. I am not a strong believer in God or Jesus Christ, but I believe that every single one of us is given a better place than where we are now when we die. I used to believe in the nothingness, darkness, a place where everything disintegrates into pieces of dust and that's it. However, I left that belief and rely on a stronger being now. I refuse to say that God is the Supreme Being, but there is a stronger being up there and it doesn't necessarily have to be a Christian entity. We all have the same ancestors, so why all the difference in the world? We are made equal.

Before I started rambling on and on, I will go back to reviewing products and posting recipes here. So, I'll see ya when I see ya..

[REVIEW] TheFaceShop Vita B Mask Sheet

I personally prefer mask sheet to peel off mask at times where I'm lazy to do the extra hard work. sure, peel off masks felt more rewarding, but sometimes for the sake of slacking off, sheet masks are a time-saver. I bought this mask at TheFaceShop (I don't know why there are not spaces in between) for Rp22500,- and received a free mask upon my second purchase. So, it's a promotion from Indosat "Buy 2, Get 3" for sheet masks. I got the Tea Tree and Bergamont, Vita K, Vita B and Mung bean mask. They are all sheet masks with different ingredients and uses. Let's review the Vita B now.

Vita B mask sheet

- Formulated with Vitamin B and extracts of cucumber and broccoli, this vitamin is drenched sheet mask gives the skin an energy boost to fight stress.

23 mL/0.78 fl. oz.

Against animal testing

  • The fragrance is not that nose poking
  • It didn't sting
  • It fits perfectly on my face and easy to put on
  • It has a cute packaging. It's in a shape of a bottle and you tear it open
  • It leaves my face SUPER STICKY after removing the mask. By STICKY, I mean like having glue on my face and my fingers started sticking to it when I'm patting the excess moisture from the mask
  • It doesn't do squat for my acne
  • After around 30 minutes, my face turns into an oil mine.
  • Quite expensive for one time use
  • It doesn't make my skin smoother
Overall, I would not repurchase this product again since I really hate the STICKY feeling after I removed the mask. I only use this once and am not planning on using them again. I find that it is a really bothersome product to use because of the stickiness and oily feeling I have on my face after usage.

The Face Shop Haul

I don't even know and care who he is

Yes, I know you're all probably confused as to how frequent I have hauls and/or mini hauls, but I am currently waiting for a certain license to come out, so I am making myself busy as to not get bored. I like trying out new stuff, be it gadgets, novels, food and even skincare/makeup products. My recent faves are between Etude House (because of their cute packaging, you know how I am with cute things?!), The Body Shop (because they don't test n animals, making a greater chance that the product will work because they tested on humans) and Clinique (because they WORK!). There are other products that I've tried but has not reached to a conclusion such as Olay, MAC, etc. Before I rambled even more into the dark of nights, let's try to concentrate on how I hauled (sort of) TFS.

My TFS Haul

The other day I was waiting for my boyfriend to finish his night duty at the hospital and decided to take a stroll at Kelapa Gading Mall. I browsed from Watson to get myself the Purederm Makeup Remover Tissue all the way to Periplus and bought myself recipe books (ranging from Italian to Chinese Cuisine). If you are familiar with the lay out of Kelapa Gading Mall, I was planning on buying myself toys and/or dolls from Petra Toy shop, but I happen to pass TFS on the way there. Like a moth attracted to light, the banner saying "Buy 2 Get 3 for face masks for those having Indosat Provider" got to me and my feet had a mind of their own, making their way into the store. It's a small store and I have noticed it a million times every time I went to MKG (okay, I was being over the top, but you get the point).

TFS at Kelapa Gading Mall

As I went inside and asked about the promotion, the SA pointed me to the direction of the face masks with the utmost respect towards me, even though I was only wearing T-Shirt and jeans. I chose 2 masks (Tea Tree and Bergamont something) and got 1 free mask (Vita K).

The "Promotion" Masks

I browsed through the nail polish section and picked out four colours that matches my nails and skin. The SA was a different person that the one that helped me picked out the masks, but she nonetheless helpful as well. She listened to the colours that I liked and the ones I despised, then painting it on her own nail as a comparison because my nails had nail polish on them.

Aren't they cute?!

As I was about to pay for my things, I walked past this one thing that I had forgotten months ago. It was ... THE FLOWER Loose Powder! Why the exclamation point, you asked? Well... just look at the appearance of that!! How can I resist not buying that?!?! I was put on this earth with one weakness and that is ADORABLE, IRRESISTIBLE, CUTE things... Whatever the form was, starting from computer accessories, phone straps, flash disks, dolls, etc.. So, I immediately grabbed it and asked for #23 which is a natural colour, since the #21 proves to be quite "ghostly" on my skin.

The Flower Loose Powder. T-o-o C-U-T-E !!

At the cashier, the SA said that I was short of Rp 150000,- to be a member. This is another Kryptonite for dear old me. I am into collecting member cards, not caring about the benefits that I get, as long as I have the member card. I have seen my friends TFS member card and I wanted to get it ever since then, but since I was too busy upgrading my PC months ago, I just plumb forgot to.

So, I asked her recommendations on their best seller item. She offered the facial cleanser, but I refused because I still have my Clinique Liquid Facial Soap. She then offered body lotions and asked what type of skin I have. I warned her that I have an extremely dry skin and that most moisturisers are not eable to penetrate and hydrate my skin. She took a stand and offered me the Sake Body Lotion. After trying on my arms, I feel a little bit sticky, but I figured it's probably because she slab loads of them onto my arms. However, after a few while (around 2 minutes), the stickiness goes away and my skin was left feeling smooth (I could touch them all day!). So, I bought the Sake body lotion and received my member card, a make up bag and a few samples.

TFS Sake Nourishing Body Lotion

You have to reach Rp700000,- to actually have a member card, but you can accumulate the receipt starting from Rp 350000,- (if I'm not mistaken). I did it all in one purchase and got myself loads of stuff and a member card. I can already picture my boyfriend screaming in agony as to having an OCD, ADD girlfriend who buys every single thing that looks cute and not use them later on.

My Brush Collection

Today, I am going to share my entire brush collection, that I have just recently purchased over the last 3 months. I remember back at the eighth grade when I didn't apply my powder with brushes because I thought they were really pricy (never looked at the prices though) and will prove useless in the future. I used to apply my powder using the puff that comes with it and then spread the powder evenly on my face using my clean hands. It's a bit barbaric if I think about it now, but I had no choice back then. I thought having brushes means that I have to buy a whole set of them from face brush to a smudge brush. It was silly of me, I know, but at least I am using them now.

My entire brush collection minus the Kabuki brushes

It all started when my uni friend was getting married and I had decided to put some effort on looking nice for the cameras or at least to the visible eyes. There was no way in the world I was going to use the puff and even it out with my hands, so I went in search for a face brush. The only store I know that sells a brush is The Body Shop and headed there. My first brush is The Body Shop's Face and Body Brush, which is this quite large brush with soft bristles and a large handle. This was really easy to use and actually recommended for those beginning to use brushes to apply makeup. I find that this brush doesn't shed at all, even after twice washing! It sets the powder on my face evenly and doesn't shed while doing its job. I used this both for applying my powder and also my blush. I tried to contour with this brush, but didn't get the result I wanted because the bristles are waaaay to soft as opposed to most contouring brushes which have a semi rigid shaped bristles.

The Body Shop's Face and Body Brush

After purchasing a brush, I figured I might need another type of brush as I am looking into mineral makeup for an everday no makeup, makeup look (if you get what I mean). I usually just use a tinted moisturiser from ZA, add a little touch of lip balm and gloss and I'm all set. Lately, I experience more frequent breakouts from ZA's tinted moisturiser and came across mineral makeup that has almost the same function. Again, TBS is the only store I knew selling mineral makeup, so I bought the Nature's mineral foundation with SPF 25 and a foundation brush. This foundation brush is similar to a Kabuki brush which I've seen often in most of the video tutorials on Youtube. The shape itself is adorable, I fell in love with it instantly and I think this is one of the many types of brushes that I really love! It has a short flat head with a slightly rounded shaped brush and a short stem for you to grip on. My first Kabuki brush is from TBS (yes, again), but I have been adding my collection from ELF and Too Faced. I like the ELF so very much since it is super super soft compared to TBS , but TBS's Kabuki is denser than ELF's.

My Kabuki Brushes

Recently, I am in search for a blending brush because I wanted to try to do an eye makeup, but a natural one. I tried using my fingers, but it just doesn't work as I expected. So, I was strolling the mall one day just for fun without any intention of buying any brushes. I got into Sogo department store and was browsing for a brush holder, sort of like a place to keep all my brushes. However, I saw the brush section and it immediately caught my eyes. I noticed a line of brushes by the of brand Masami Shouko. It has almost every type of brush except for Kabuki brushes, *sniff*. I bought the one similar to ELF SL Eye shadow C Brush, sort of like a dome shaped eye shadow brush, concealer brush, and a foundation brush. I really like the eye shadow brushes as the bristles are really dense and doesn't shed so far. It is super super soft and doesn't scratch my face. The best part is the price, since they only cost me Rp 20900,- each!! The eye shadow brushes have the similar texture and density as ELF brushes at a cheaper price. However, the concealer brush is not similar to ELF's because this is bigger and sort of fluffier.

My Masami Shouko Brushes

Another brush that I am particularly in love with is the concealer brush from TBS. I bought this when I received my Everyday Minerals concealers. If you had been using EDM concealers, you would be familiar with the texture. It is hard to apply using your bare fingers because it has a powder consistency instead of a cream or liquid texture. Using a concealer brush makes the application a lot easier and makes your skin looks flawless. The bristles are firm enough to help applying the concealer. I have already pre order my ELF concealer brush, but I'll just have to wait and experience it myself.

It's a dependable concealer brush

That is it for my brush collection, although I have an angled eye shadow brush, but it was falling off and I needed a new one anyway, so I didn't put it in this blog. Currently, I am still waiting on my ELF brushes and brush guards (super excited about this!), so once it arrives, I am going to review them. I'll see ya' when I see ya!

My desperate attempt to create my own "Brush Guard".

[REVIEW] Oriflame Optimals Seeing is Believing Multi benefits Eye Cream

I have been getting plenty of sleep lately, but I noticed that my under eye circles and puffiness are still present. I wonder why, so I decided to find an eye cream to reduce or even eliminate those annoying panda eyes. I first chose the Vitamin C eye cream from The Body Shop, but experienced a stinging sensation after 1 minute of using it. I then stumbled on to Olay's Regenerist Eye Lifting serum, but left it because it tears up my eyes. In my desperate attempt to reduce my under eye circles, I tried on eye masks that contains CoQ10, but it brings no result. I looked for reviews at MUA for a good eye cream, but most of them are not sold in Jakarta. I nearly gave up when I saw Oriflame's Optimals line Multi Benefits Eye Cream.

Oriflame Optimals Seeing is Believing Multi benefits Eye Cream

Skin around the eye area is delicate and sensitive. Constant squinting, smiling and blinking plus the negative effects of late nights, dryness, environmental influences and time means that fine lines show up around the eyes first.

Optimals Seeing is Believing is a specific multi-benefit cream that provides ideal solutions to the eye area, based on technical and natural ingredients:
* 'D-Circle' complex helps reduce eye puffs and brightens dark circles
* Wheat Protein with hydrating, smoothening and firming effects
* Eyebright extract helps soften under eye shadows

This light cream gel has moisturising and smoothening properties and is quickly absorbed.

Results: It works to help de-puff, soothe and smooth out fine lines. Eyes appear brighter, shadows, and dark circles are diminished.
Fragrance free.

Usage: Apply day and night gently around the entire eye area. Avoid direct contact with eyes. If any discomfort is experienced, discontinue use.

The ingredients list is so very long with really complicated words, so I'll try to find it around the web.

For all skin types
15 mL/ 0.5 fl oz

  • It's inexpensive as it only cost Rp130000,-.
  • A little goes a long way in terms of application.
  • It's easy to get. They don't sell it in stores, but Oriflame products are easily obtained via Facebook, Kaskus, or any other forums.
  • The texture is light and doesn't end up sticky or greasy on my under eye area.
  • It doesn't sting or bring my eyes to tears
  • It helps in reducing my puffy eyes within 2 weeks of regular use.
  • The shadow under my eyes have slightly reduced within 3 weeks time, with regular use, day and night
  • I have only been using this for a month, but it hasn't even reduced to 1/4 of the tub!
  • The cream colour is blue, which I totally love! It's because I love the colour blue =p

  • I wish it has a pump. I have this thing with pumps as this helps in guess-timating the amount needed every application
The swatch. It's really creamy, yet light on the skin.

Overall, I would recommend this product to those suffering from mild to moderate undereye circles, just because I don't know whether or not it would work on people with severe panda eyes. Note that I did not only use this product to help eliminate my panda eyes, but I also try to get enough sleep every night. I must say that I use this product religiously every morning and night for almost a month now. I really love this product and was thinking of buying a second tub, but I haven't finish the first one. Geez, what a dilemma..

What it looks like after I've used it for a month. It's still plenty!

[REVIEW] Clinique 7 Day Scrub

Let's start this blog with the word exfoliation, which means the removal of the oldest dead skin cells on the skin's outermost surface (from Wikipedia). This helps in shedding of the outer layer unclogs pores, keeps skin clean, and helps reduce acne breakouts. In layman terms, it helps in maintaining the skin at its best. Usually it is recommended to exfoliate 2-3 times a week to remove those dead cells on the skin. However, this product claims that it is safe to be used twice a day! I was a bit skeptic at first because scrubs are not meant to be used every single day, but I step up and tried it anyway. I have been using this product for one month now and noticed less breakouts on my face. Here is the full review on it.

7 Day Scrub Cream Rinse-Off Formula

Nudges away roughness, flakiness to refine skin. Helps lessen the appearance of fine lines. Clears the way for moisture. Suitable for all skin types.
  • Skin Types: All
3.4 fl oz
It has that creamy texture which differs from common scrubs

  • Texture is soft and creamy despite the presence of microbeads
  • It doesn't irritate my skin
  • It doesn't dry out my skin, but moisturizes it instead
  • It reduces my breakouts and blackheads
  • It is safe to use twice a day
  • It doesn't have any scent
  • It relieves the flakes that are sometimes present on my face

  • It takes quite a long time to exfoliate. I've read somewhere that you have to wait for the cream to go transparent before rinsing it off. Sometimes I do, sometimes I don't.
  • The full size might be expensive, I'm not sure since I only get the sample.

You won't be needing to use a facial brush in conjunction with this scrub because the microbeads are already exfoliating enough. Another thing I forgot to mention about this scrub is that it won Allure's Reader Choice in the facial scrub section.

[REVIEW] ELF Studio Blush: Candid Coral

When it comes to blushes, I am a nut for it. I am mostly into pink shades compared to peach coloured blushes. When I saw this on facebook, it immediately caught my eye and in the spur of the moment, I bought it. The weird thing about it was that the blush that I bought was actually more of a peach coloured blush rather than a pink one. So, I guess that's new for me. I think the reason behind not liking the peachy colours is that I find them to be a bit dark and was actually afraid that it might come out as more of a brown colour rather than that peach colour. Anyway, the blush that I bought is from ELF (Eyes, Lips, Face) and it was the one called Candid Coral. I was actually thinking of buying the Mellow Mauve, but the seller said that it was out of stock. Some reviews actually compared this colour to the infamous NARS Orgasm and found it to be quite similar in colour, but I guess I have to wait and compare them once my NARS Orgasm arrive (so excited!). So, here is how the blush looks like.

looks really classy, doesn't it?

It has a little mirror inside, but no brush. Oh well..

The swatch

* It's a simple but classy blush on case
* It's quite cheap. It costs me around Rp 75000,-. Some might say it's pricy, but I mean, look at how much you are getting!
* It has a small mirror inside which saves time to do touch ups.
* It has no fragrance so, sensitive noses fear not!
* It looks great on my cheeks. It gives me that healthy look.
* It doesn't break me out. I find this to be the most important factor in choosing my makeup products.

* It's not that pigmented. I tried to swatch it on my wrist, but the colours didn't show.
* It doesn't have a build in brush (not that I care about it)
* It's not readily available in Jakarta. I have to order mine off a seller on Facebook.

Overall, the Candid Coral from ELF is becoming one of my current faves in the blush department. I would do a comparison between this and the NARS Orgasm to see whether or not they are the same colour wise. I can save lotsa money if they are the same!

[REVIEW] Everyday Minerals Intensive Medium Concealer

Concealers have been a part of my life ever since I befriended acne which was waaaaaay back since Junior High School. I can't always expect the acne to disappear like the wind, but I can conceal them as to not attract more eyes towards my face. I have tried various concealers from creams, liquids, but never powder concealer. I have been hearing about powder concealers, especially green tinted ones, in helping to hide most of skin imperfections, including acne and/or acne scars. I recently discovered Everyday Minerals and their infamous concealers. However, I couldn't get my hands on the EDM Mint Color Corrector, so I grabbed two concealers namely EDM Multi Tasking Neutral and Intensive Medium. I bought the Try Me size which is sample sizes for Rp 150000,- if I'm not mistaken. So, without further ado, here is the review on the EDM Intensive Medium concealer (haven't tried out the multi tasking one).

Everyday Minerals Intensive Medium Concealer

For those who are serious about camouflaging evidence of skin imperfections, including dark circles, sun or age spots, blemishes, Intensive Concealers are the way to go. They contain more intense doses of pigments for thicker coverage without being cakey or unnatural. This shade is perfect for those with Light to Medium toned complexions.

Mica (CI 77019), Lauroyl Lysine. May Contain: Titanium Dioxide (CI 77891), Iron Oxides (CI 77491, CI 77492, CI 77499), Chromium Oxide Greens (CI 77288).
Mica: Is a naturally occurring mineral noted for its transparent sparkly luster.
Lauroyl Lysine: An amino acid derived from coconut fatty acid, contributing to the products silk like creamy texture and spreadability qualities.
Titanium Dioxide: An inert white mineral that is used as a color adjuster.
Iron Oxides: Cosmetic pigments used to add depths of color.
Chromium Oxide Greens: An inorganic bright green pigment.

Sprinkle the concealer powder into the lid of the jar. For best application, use a concealer brush. Dip your brush into the powder and apply directly onto the area of your skin in which you want extra coverage. Concealers perform best when applied before your foundation.

* Has a sifter so that I can estimate how much I'm going to use.
* Blends easily with my skin tone
* Medium to full coverage. It covers my sun spots really well.
* Buildable, but does not give u that cakey or makeupy (is this a word? Lol) finish
* It didn't break me out or irritate my skin.
* It's really light weight when applied.
* A little goes a long way in terms of concealing with this.

* It's not readily available in Jakarta. I have to pre order it from sellers on facebook and/or kaskus.
* To some people, it might sound kinda pricy. I just told my boyfriend how much this cost and he was like, "what?! just for that small tub??!". Well, he didn't know that I only used small amounts to get natural result.

I recommend using a concealer brush when applying this concealer because it might be a tad hard to blend when your using your fingers. Unlike cream concealers, which is really easy to blend using your fingers, powder concealers might fall off easily or even stick to your fingers. I use The Body Shop Lip/ Concealer Brush, which works perfectly with this concealer. I am still waiting on my ELF concealer brush because it's being pre ordered so, fingers crossed that it's like most reviews said. With that being said, I really like this concealer and gives it a 4 out of 5 stars. The one star left is the availability here in Jakarta *sigh* .

Always remember "What works for me might not work for you and vice versa".

Etude House Mini Haul

Today, I am going to do my hauls from Etude House because I bought several items that are on special price (for members only). I have been using EH's products for almost 4 months now and so far it doesn't break me out, except for the blue BB cream. My face was fine using their other makeup products. So, I won't waste anymore of your time and list the things that I got from EH.

Dear Darling Lips 301
Dear Darling Lips 003
Eyebrow Kit 02
Oh m'Eye Lash Petticoat
Petit Darling Nails High Beam PK 004
Petit Darling Nails PK 008
Petit Darling Eyes Matte #2
Easy Brow Pencil 03 (black)
Model Face Colour 02 ( for contouring )
Sweet Appleade Body Wash (I already put this in my bathroom and realized this when I was already typing)

Those were the things that I could get my hands on at EH and amazingly, most of them were eye makeup! I also bought nail polishes which were pink and sort of like a peach colour. I liked the pink better though since the peach one makes my fingers look old, but I still like the colour. I'm really psyched that I got the eyebrow kit for only Rp 88000,- because it was usually around Rp 200000,- when I last saw it. Oh, I restock my body wash that I totally adore which makes me smell like fresh apples!

I'm really sorry for the short haul, I'm not in the mood for writing today. However, I am planning on making my daily blog since this helps in building my sense of discipline.

[REVIEW] Jergens Ultra Healing Moisturizer

If you know me at all, you must have realized that I almost never wear shorts to the mall. This is because I can't stand the cold temperature on my legs and also because I have EXTREMELY DRY skin on both my legs. If I were to wear shorts, you can see the cracks and wrinkle-looking lines on my legs. I have tried almost every brand of moisturiser, lotion, cream there is to know. Recently, I was browsing through Food Hall at Kelapa Gading Mall in search of tonkatsu sauce when I found this moisturizer.

It goes by the name of Jergens and I remembered trying them when I went to ITC Mangga Dua with my friends. I didn't purchase it back then because I was too lazy to spend a little bit time on skincare. Well, I was someone who didn't want any fuss after my shower, so I didn't care on applying any skincare products when I was a teenager. Anyway, I stumbled on the three types of Jergens moisturizer and picked the Ultra Healing. I'll write what it says on the bottle.

NEW! JERGENS Ultra Healing Heals & Softens (621 ml/ 21 fl oz)

Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer. Now with Vitamin 3.
Penetrates through 5 layers of skin's surface to start healing at the source.

Experience all the ways the Jergens collection of moisturizers give skin a subtle allure that captivates.

Moisturize into deeply hydrated skin.

Irresistibly soft, invitingly smooth skin is in the palm of your hands. Let the nourishing formula of Jergens Ultra Healing Extra Dry Skin Moisturizer take even your roughest spots-heels, elbows, and knees-from a state of extreme dryness to a state of lasting sotness. This fast absorbing body lotion goes deep beneath skin's surface to lock in moisture for 24 hours of relief. With continued use, it actually triples skin's moisture content, healing dryness at the source to prevent its unwelcome return.

Made with Vitamin 3, blend of C,E, and B5, this formula penetrates deeply to help heal extra dry skin.

Sounds like a dream, doesn't it? Imagine extra dry, crackly, wrinkly skin turning to soft, smooth skin in just minutes using this product. I want that. So, without any further ado, I bought the moisturizer and it cost me around Rp 120000,- (if I'm not mistaken). So, after using it for two weeks now, here is my review on it.

* It has a pump. Makes it easier to get the appropriate amount.
* Quite big for Rp 120000,- . I've used this for almost two weeks and it hasn't reduced to 1/4 of the bottle.
* The moisture really lasted for 24 hours because sometimes I don't use it everyday and my skin still feels hydrated.
* The texture is thick, but once it goes on the skin it's really light (not light as a feather, but light)
* It's not sticky or greasy
* It doesn't have a fragrance
* The skin on my legs doesn't appear that crackly anymore!

* I found some stores sell them cheaper. You can get them for Rp 100000,- , but I don't know where.
* They're not available in any stores. You have to look for them in Food Hall, Watsons, or any drug stores.

Plan of repurchasing : Yes! Definitely!

I rate this 5 out of 5, especially if you can get them cheaper! I hope you'll find this review useful and always remember "What works for me might not necessarily work for you and vice versa".
